Built for native Odoo workflows

This module extends the native project status workflow and native task state workflow. Project teams keep the familiar Odoo interface while administrators gain configurable statuses, colors and safer lifecycle controls.

• Project statuses: Add custom project status values that appear in the native project status selector, project lists, kanban cards and status history surfaces.
• Task statuses: Add custom task state values that appear in the native task state selector while preserving native Done, Cancelled and Waiting behavior.
• Visual consistency: Use Odoo color picker values in selectors, kanban cards and kanban progress bars for clear status visibility.
• Data integrity: Used custom statuses are protected from deletion, archiving and technical code changes to prevent orphan status values.

Custom project statuses

Define project-specific statuses from Project > Configuration > Custom Project Statuses. Native values such as On Track, At Risk, Off Track, On Hold, Set Status and Complete remain available.

Custom project statuses integrate with supported native project views, including status selection, list display, kanban bubbles, update history and kanban progress indicators.

Custom task statuses

Define task-specific statuses from Project > Configuration > Custom Task Statuses. Native values such as In Progress, Changes Requested, Approved, Waiting, Cancelled and Done remain available.

Custom task statuses appear in the native task state selector and can be ordered, colored and grouped with open or closed states.

Treat as Closed

Custom task statuses can be marked with Treat as Closed. These statuses behave like closed task states where the module extends Odoo task logic, including closed-state classification, dependency behavior, subtask counters, project closed task counts and kanban closed styling.

Kanban and colors

Custom status colors use Odoo's standard color picker values. The module applies these colors to supported selectors and kanban progress bars so custom statuses remain visually aligned with native Odoo views.

Lifecycle protection

Native Odoo fields store custom statuses as technical string codes. To prevent orphan values, used custom statuses cannot be deleted, archived or have their technical code changed until affected projects, project updates or tasks are moved to another status.

Usage smart buttons

Custom status configuration forms display usage counts and smart buttons that help you find which records are using each status.

• See where a status is used: Each status form shows a count of projects, project updates or tasks using that status. Click any button to navigate directly to the filtered list.
• Unlock blocked actions: When a status is blocked from deletion, archiving or code changes, use the smart buttons to quickly find and reassign the affected records.
• Faster configuration: One click to see related records. No more manual searches or guessing where a status is in use.

Setup

1. Install the module on Odoo 19 with the standard Project app installed.
2. Open Project > Configuration.
3. Create custom project statuses or custom task statuses.
4. Choose sequence, color and active status.
5. For task statuses, enable Treat as Closed only when the status should behave like Done or Cancelled.

What it does not do

• It does not add workflow transition rules.
• It does not add approval or sign-off logic.
• It does not add automation rules or external synchronization.
• It does not add granular per-status access rules.
