Deltatech ECR Connect (shared)
Shared fiscal document model, ECR format converter and Terrabit Connect sender
Shared building blocks for sending fiscal documents to cash registers (ECR) through the Terrabit Connect local agent.
Until now the knowledge of cash-register formats was duplicated: in
JavaScript (deltatech_pos) and in Python (deltatech_sale_store).
This module centralizes the moving parts so any producer module can
reuse them:
- Standardized fiscal document(
ecr_document.esm.js) — a cash-register neutral JSON contract (header, lines, payments, options) that producer modules build from their own data (a POS order, an invoice, …). - Format converter(
ecr_format.esm.js) — the single source of truth for the per-device templates (Datecs/FiscalWire, FiscalNet, Incotex, Optima, Daisy, Succes), plusformatEcrDocument(doc, ecrType)which turns the standardized document into the device-specific content. - Terrabit Connect sender(
ecr_connect.esm.js) —sendEcrToConnect()posts the content to the local agent (http://127.0.0.1:8765/print), handles the synchronous result, the error dialog (retry / manual / cancel) and the fallback to a file download when the agent is unreachable.
Producer modules (deltatech_pos, deltatech_sale_store) depend on
this module, build the standardized document and delegate the conversion
+ sending here.
Use Cases / Context
Background
Romanian fiscal law requires every retail sale to be registered on a
certified cash register (ECR — Electronic Cash Register). The ECR
receives a structured command stream over a serial or network interface;
each manufacturer uses a proprietary line protocol. Before this module
existed, the command-generation logic was duplicated: once in JavaScript
inside deltatech_pos (for the Point-of-Sale terminal) and once in
Python inside deltatech_sale_store (for invoice-based store sales).
Any protocol fix or new device had to be applied in two places.
Architecture: producer / library / agent

Producer modules own the business data (POS order, invoice). They
call emptyEcrDocument(), fill in the lines/payments, and pass the
result to formatEcrDocument(doc, ecrType).
This library owns the encoding knowledge. ecr_format.esm.js
contains the per-device templates for all supported protocols and
converts the device-neutral JSON into the byte stream the cash register
understands. ecr_connect.esm.js posts that stream to the local
Terrabit Connect agent and handles the full error lifecycle.
Terrabit Connect is the local Windows/Linux agent (deltatech_tc
/ FiscalWire) that relays the command stream to the physical cash
register over serial/USB/TCP.

VAT rate mapping
Romanian VAT reform 2025 changed standard rate from 19 % to 21 % and
reduced rate from 9 % to 11 %. The formatter maps both old and new rates
to the same device fiscal group (21 → group of 19, 11 → group of 9), so
existing cash register fiscal group programming is preserved. For
Datecs/DXPrint the VAT code is derived directly from the rate value
(vatCode = "{rate}%"), so no re-programming of the device is needed.
Error handling flow
When sendEcrToConnect() receives an error response from the agent it
presents FiscalErrorDialog with three choices:
- Retry— resends the same command stream (idempotent uuid prevents duplicate receipts on the agent side).
- Manual intervention— downloads the
.prnfile so the cashier can deliver it to the agent manually. - Cancel— aborts the fiscal operation; the caller decides whether to roll back the sale.
When the agent is completely unreachable (network timeout after 40 s) the module falls back silently to the file download, so mixed fleets (some tills with a local agent, some without) keep working.
