Documents Template Fill
Turn a DOCX file in Odoo Documents into a reusable template: copy it, pick a contact, and the copy's {{placeholders}} are filled from that contact's data while all of the document's formatting is preserved. Ideal for contracts, letters and forms that only differ by a few merge fields.
Turn a DOCX file in Odoo Documents into a reusable template: copy it, pick a contact, and the copy's {{placeholders}} are filled from that contact's data while all of the document's formatting is preserved. Ideal for contracts, letters and forms that only differ by a few merge fields. Requires Odoo Enterprise — this module depends on the Enterprise documents app and does not install on Community.
Features
- Copy a DOCX document and auto-fill
{{placeholder}}variables from a chosen Template Contact. - Name, address and state helper placeholders included out of the box.
- Original formatting (styles, tables, fonts) is preserved during the fill.
- Multi-record copy is handled correctly — copying several documents at once fills each one from its own context (this was previously broken and is now fixed).
- The old ETS-internal "cons" placeholder hack has been removed; placeholders are now generic and reusable.
Configuration
1. Install the module (Enterprise documents required; Python python-docx on the host). 2. Use the Copy operation on a DOCX document and choose a Template Contact — the new copy is filled from that contact.
Limitations
- DOCX only (no legacy
.doc, PDF, or ODT templates). - Placeholders must use the
{{name}}form; a placeholder with no matching source field is left as-is.
Tests
6 automated tests, run on Odoo.sh staging (Enterprise dependency; not runnable on the Community lab).
Screenshots: TODO (capture from staging).
