Form Edit Mode
Makes form views open in readonly mode by default and adds an Edit button to switch to edit mode. Includes Save with confirmation, Cancel to discard, and safe auto-save on navigation — just like the classic Odoo workflow.
What this module does
Restores the classic Edit/Save/Cancel workflow to all Odoo form views. Existing records open in readonly mode, and users must click Edit before making changes — preventing accidental edits and enforcing a deliberate save step with a confirmation dialog.
How it works
The module patches the standard Odoo form controller and templates to enforce a readonly-first experience across all form views.
- Open any existing record — it loads in readonly mode.
- Click the Edit button in the control panel to switch to edit mode.
- Make your changes, then click Save — a confirmation dialog appears.
- Confirm to save, or click Cancel to discard all changes and return to readonly.
- Creating new records works as usual — no extra steps required.
- When navigating away while in edit mode, unsaved changes are auto-saved.
