Milestone Based Billing for Purchase Orders
Model vendor projects and professional services with milestone-based purchase orders. Define deliverables per line, track deadlines and “Reached” status, and create vendor bills only when milestones are achieved—fully integrated with Purchase, Stock, and Accounting in Odoo 19.
Key Features
Milestone Products (Service)
Mark products as Use Milestone Billing on templates and variants. Only Service products can be milestone products—keeping stock and consumables on standard receiving flows.
Auto-Create Milestones on PO Confirm
When you confirm a purchase order that contains milestone service lines, the app can generate milestones automatically from those lines (quantity, price, description), with a sensible default deadline.
Deadlines & Status
Each milestone has a Deadline and computed Deadline Status: On Track, Approaching, Overdue, or Completed. List views use decorations so overdue items stand out at a glance.
Reached → Achieved → Billed
Toggle Reached or use actions to move milestones through Draft, Achieved, and Billed. Billed milestones stay locked so billing integrity is preserved.
Vendor Bills from Milestones
From an achieved milestone, create a vendor bill in one click. The bill is linked to the purchase order and line; Related Milestone is available on vendor bill lines for traceability.
PO Smart Button & Received Qty
Confirmed POs show a milestone smart button (achieved / total, plus overdue count). For milestone service lines, Received (Milestones) and Qty Received follow achieved milestone quantities—aligned with purchase_stock.
How to Use
- Install Milestone Based Billing for Purchase Orders.
- On a Service product (template or variant), enable Use Milestone Billing.
- Create a Purchase Order, add lines with that product, then Confirm. If the order has milestone products and no milestones exist yet, milestones are created from the lines.
- Open milestones via the PO smart button (after confirmation) or from the Purchase Milestones action (list/form views).
- Set or adjust Deadline, names, and amounts; mark milestones as Reached when work is done.
- For users with billing rights, use Create Bill on an achieved milestone to generate the vendor invoice; the milestone moves to Billed and links to the bill.
