Pakistan Sales Tax Return (STR-7)
FBR & Provincial (PRA / SRB / KPRA / BRA) Monthly Sales Tax Worksheet
Aggregate output and input tax, apply the section 8B 90% cap, and produce an upload-ready STR-7 worksheet — you file it through your own FBR IRIS or provincial credentials.
What this module does
The module builds a complete Pakistan Sales Tax & Federal Excise Return (STR-7) worksheet for one monthly tax period. It reads your posted customer invoices (output tax, Annex-C) and vendor bills / imports (input tax, Annex-A and Annex-B), classifies every line into the official STR-7 supply and purchase buckets by sales tax rate, computes the further tax on supplies to un-registered persons, applies the section 8B 90% input-tax cap, the Annex-I debit/credit adjustments and the carried excess input, and produces a downloadable worksheet (CSV) plus a printable return summary.
Federal FBR Sales Tax (Goods)
- Standard rate 18% (Sales Tax Act 1990, s.3(1))
- Further tax 4% on supplies to un-registered persons (s.3(1A))
- Extra tax 3% on specified goods (s.3(5))
- Zero-rated exports & Fifth-Schedule supplies (s.4)
- Exempt supplies (Sixth Schedule)
Provincial Sales Tax on Services
- SRB — Sindh Revenue Board (15%)
- PRA — Punjab Revenue Authority (16%)
- KPRA — Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Revenue Authority (15%)
- BRA — Balochistan Revenue Authority (15%)
- ICT — Islamabad Capital Territory services (15%)
Section 8B input-tax adjustment cap
The heart of a Pakistani return and the most common cause of IRIS rejection. Admissible input tax in a period is limited to 90% of output tax (Sales Tax Act 1990, s.8B(1)); the excess is carried forward automatically to the next return. Registered persons exempt from the cap under SRO 1190(I)/2019 can switch it off per return with a single tick.
STR-7 annexures the worksheet builds
The worksheet is built automatically from your posted invoices and bills for the input, output and adjustment annexures listed below.
| Annexure | Contents |
|---|---|
| Annex-A | Domestic purchases from registered suppliers (input tax) |
| Annex-B | Import purchases (Goods Declaration based input tax) |
| Annex-C | Domestic sales invoices issued (output tax) |
| Annex-D | Export sales (zero-rated) |
| Annex-I | Debit and credit note adjustments |
Key features
| Automatic aggregation | Output & input tax pulled from posted invoices/bills for the period. |
| Further & extra tax | 4% further tax (s.3(1A)) and 3% extra tax (s.3(5)) computed on the un-registered / specified base. |
| Section 8B cap | 90% input-tax ceiling with automatic carry-forward of the excess. |
| Withholding | Sales tax withheld by buyers credited; tax withheld as agent deposited separately. |
| Default surcharge | Additional tax on overdue payment (s.34, KIBOR + 3% spread). |
| STRN / NTN validation | 13-digit STRN, CNIC and legacy NTN structural validation on company & partners. |
| Pre-submission checks | Cross-total and structural rules flag problems before you file. |
| Worksheet export | CSV worksheet + printable return summary with the PSID payable figure. |
How it works
- Enable Pakistan sales tax on your company and set the STRN, NTN and province.
- Tag partners with their STRN (a blank STRN marks an un-registered buyer for further tax).
- Open Accounting → Reporting → Pakistan Sales Tax → Generate STR-7, pick the authority and month.
- The module aggregates the period, applies the section 8B cap and validates the figures.
- Download the STR-7 worksheet and file it through your own FBR IRIS or provincial portal.
Filing boundary
This module is a worksheet / return preparer. It produces the figures and the export file for the taxpayer to file through their own FBR IRIS (iris.fbr.gov.pk) or provincial (e.srb.gos.pk, e.pra.punjab.gov.pk, kpra.kp.gov.pk, bra.gob.pk) credentials. It performs no transmission and claims no FBR or provincial accreditation.
Rates and rules reflect the Sales Tax Act, 1990 (as amended), the Sales Tax Rules, 2006, and the provincial Sales Tax on Services Acts of Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Always confirm current rates against the latest FBR / provincial notifications before filing.
