Duplicate Contact Warning

The moment the email or phone you enter on a contact already exists on another partner, a clear dismissible warning appears and names the matching contact. It is purely advisory: it never raises an error and never stops the save, so legitimate shared details, like a family email or a shared office line, are never in your way. No new models, no stored data, nothing to configure.

What This Module Does

Contact lists quietly fill up with the same person entered twice: once by sales, once by support, once from an import. This module watches the email and phone fields while you edit a contact and gently flags a match the instant you type it, so you can merge or correct on the spot instead of discovering the mess months later.

As soon as you enter an email or phone that already exists on another partner, the check runs and a warning is shown right there in the form, before you even save.
● It names the match
The warning does not just say "duplicate", it tells you which contact already uses that value, so you can jump straight to comparing, merging, or fixing the record.
● Never blocks a save
The notice is advisory only. It never raises an error and never prevents saving, so a shared family email or a single office line is never a roadblock.
Zero setup, zero footprint. No new models and no stored data. The contact you are currently editing is excluded from its own check, so a record never flags itself. Install it and it just works.

How it works

There is nothing to configure. Install the module and the warning is active on every contact form.

  1. Open any contact (a new one or an existing partner) and start filling in the details.
  2. Type or edit the email or phone. The module searches for other partners that already use that exact value.
  3. If a match is found, a non-blocking warning appears naming the matching contact (or contacts), so you know exactly who it collides with.
  4. Decide what to do: fix the value, merge the records, or dismiss the notice and save anyway, the choice is always yours.
Note: The check is a lightweight, case-insensitive lookup on the email and phone fields and always ignores the record you are editing, so a contact is never flagged against itself. It adds no new models and stores no extra data.
