Phone Number Masking
A privacy and security module that masks phone and mobile numbers on contacts across the Odoo backend. Users who are not trusted see numbers partially hidden (for example 0305*****74), while members of a single security group see the real number and the Call link. The masking is purely cosmetic on screen, so the stored value in your database is never altered.

What this module does
Adds a security group named See Full Phone Numbers. Anyone in the group reads the real number; everyone else sees it masked as the first four digits, then asterisks, then the last two digits. It works everywhere the standard phone widget renders, with no data migration and nothing to configure beyond who belongs to the group.

Need-to-know access
Users outside the See Full Phone Numbers group see a masked, read-only value such as
0305*****74. No editable input and no click-to-call, so raw numbers
stay out of reach for staff who do not need them.

Full access for trusted users
Add a user to the group and they instantly get the normal phone field back, including the
Call (tel:) link. One permission toggle decides who reaches the
real numbers, with no per-record setup.

Works in every view
Masking applies to form, list and kanban views, and any field using the
phone or form.phone widget. Wherever a contact number would normally show, it is
masked for unauthorized users automatically.

Database value never changes
Masking is display-only. The real number stays in the database, so
exports, integrations, automations and reports all keep the full
value. This is access control for the screen, not encryption of your data.

Keep customer contact details on a need-to-know basis to support
GDPR and privacy requirements, and reduce the risk of staff
scraping or leaking raw phone lists from your contacts.

Lightweight, instant setup
No configuration screens and no data migration. Install the module, then add or remove users
from a single group. Short numbers degrade gracefully so masking stays sensible on
every value.
How it works
From install to protected phone numbers in a few clicks, with no configuration required.
- Install the module. Phone and mobile numbers on contacts are masked by default for everyone.
- Every user now sees numbers in the masked form (first four digits, asterisks, last two digits, for example 0305*****74).
- Open Settings → Users & Companies → Users and add trusted people to the See Full Phone Numbers group.
- Those users immediately see the full number and the Call link again across form, list and kanban views.
- Remove a user from the group at any time to put them back on masked, need-to-know access.
Note: Masking is display-only. The phone number stored in your database is
never changed, so exports, third-party integrations, server-side
automations and printed reports all continue to use the real value. There is zero risk to your
existing data or workflows.
