Auto BOM Reference
Automatically assign a unique sequential reference code to every new Bill of Materials in Odoo Manufacturing.

This module installs a pre-configured sequence rule that automatically stamps the
Reference field (mrp.bom.code) on every new Bill of
Materials record with a unique code in the format BOM-00001,
incrementing with each new BOM created.
The rule is safe by design: if a BOM already has a reference code set — whether entered manually or imported — it will not be overwritten. Only BOMs with a blank reference field are stamped.
Makes it easy to reference and trace specific Bills of Materials in production orders, reports, and communications without manual numbering.
How to Use
Install mjb_sequence_rule (Sequence Rule Engine) if not already installed.
This is the engine that powers all mjb_seq_* rule packs.
Install this module — Auto BOM Reference.
Go to Settings → Technical → Sequence Rules, find the rule named Auto BOM Reference (BOM-XXXXX), and toggle Enable.
Scope & Limitations
- Does not backfill existing BOM records — only new BOMs created after the rule is enabled are stamped.
- Does not overwrite a reference that has already been set on an existing BOM.
- Does not apply to BOM components or BOM lines — only the top-level BOM record reference is stamped.
