Auto Product Barcode
Automatically generate a unique sequential barcode for every new product variant in Odoo.
$5 — Requires Sequence Rule EngineWhat It Does
by Majorbird — Odoo Silver Partner
This module installs a pre-configured sequence rule that automatically stamps the
Barcode field (product.product.barcode) on every new
product variant with a unique code in the format BAR-00000001,
incrementing with each new product.
The rule is safe by design: if a product already has a barcode value assigned — whether scanned, imported, or manually entered — it will not be overwritten. Only products with a blank barcode field are stamped.
Eliminates the need to manually track or assign internal barcodes for products that do not carry a manufacturer or EAN barcode.
How to Use
Install mjb_sequence_rule (Sequence Rule Engine) if not already installed.
This is the engine that powers all mjb_seq_* rule packs.
Install this module — Auto Product Barcode.
Go to Settings → Technical → Sequence Rules, find the rule named Auto Product Barcode (BAR-XXXXXXXX), and toggle Enable.
Scope & Limitations
- Does not backfill existing product variants — only new variants created after the rule is enabled are stamped.
- Does not overwrite a barcode that has already been set on a product, whether manually entered or imported.
- Does not validate GS1/EAN-13 check digits — the generated barcodes are internal sequential codes, not standards-compliant retail barcodes.
