Auto Product Internal Reference

This module installs a pre-configured sequence rule that automatically stamps the
Internal Reference field (product.product.default_code) on every new
product variant with a unique identifier in the format PROD-00001,
incrementing with each new product variant created.
The rule targets product variants (product.product) rather than product templates,
ensuring each individual variant — whether distinguished by color, size, or any attribute —
receives its own dedicated reference code for precise traceability in warehouse operations.
The rule is safe by design: if a product variant already has an internal reference set, it will not be overwritten. Only variants with a blank internal reference field are stamped at creation time.
How to Use
Install mjb_sequence_rule (Sequence Rule Engine) if not already installed.
This is the engine that powers all mjb_seq_* rule packs.
Install this module — Auto Product Internal Reference.
Go to Settings → Technical → Sequence Rules, find the rule named Auto Product Internal Reference (PROD-XXXXX), and toggle Enable.
Scope & Limitations
- Does not backfill existing product variant records — only new variants created after the rule is enabled are stamped.
- Does not overwrite an internal reference that has already been manually entered on a product variant.
- The rule is installed disabled by default — it must be explicitly enabled from Settings → Technical → Sequence Rules before it takes effect.
