Tag: Rental Overdue
Automatically tag rental orders that have passed their return date — so your rental fleet dashboard instantly highlights overdue bookings and your team can follow up before late fees escalate into disputes.
$5 USDby Majorbird — Odoo Silver Partner
The Problem
Rental orders with a missed return date blend into the list view with no visual marker — the rental manager has to export and filter the list manually to identify overdue bookings, often daily. Equipment tied up in overdue rentals can't be allocated to new orders, and late fee disputes grow the longer follow-up is delayed.
This module automatically tags any rental order that has passed its return date, making overdue bookings instantly visible in filtered views and dashboard groupings so your team can act the same day.
What It Does
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Daily Cron Trigger | Runs daily and finds open rental orders where the return date is in the past |
| Overdue Tag Applied | Applies a configurable tag (default: Overdue) to the rental order record |
| Filter & Group Ready | Tag appears in rental list view and kanban — filter or group by Overdue instantly |
| Configurable Tag | Change or extend the tag on the rule record to match your existing tagging taxonomy |
| Satellite Design | Thin data module on top of mjb_record_tag_rule engine — installs instantly |
Key Features
Zero-Click Visibility
No export required — the Overdue tag surfaces on the rental order record within 24 hours of the return date passing, visible to every user with access to the rental module.
Rental Lifecycle Coverage
Complements mjb_chatter_rental_confirmed (confirmation alert) and mjb_escalate_rental_overdue (escalation to manager) — completing the full rental lifecycle loop.
Dashboard Grouping
Group the rental order list by tag to instantly separate overdue bookings from active and completed ones — ideal for morning fleet status reviews.
Tag Customization
The rule uses a configurable tag — rename it to match your existing colour-coded tagging scheme without touching any code.
Configuration
- Install mjb_record_tag_rule (engine) if not already installed
- Install mjb_tag_rental_overdue — the tag rule is created automatically
- Go to Rental › Configuration › Tag Rules to review the rule
- Optionally rename or remap the Overdue tag to match your existing taxonomy
- Confirm the rule is Active (Enabled)
- The daily cron will tag all open rental orders with a past return date within 24 hours
Scope & Limitations
- Tags open rental orders only — closed / returned orders are not affected
- Tag is applied within 24 hours of the daily cron schedule
- Does NOT automatically generate a late-fee invoice
- Does NOT block new rental bookings for the same product
- Requires mjb_record_tag_rule engine and Odoo Rental module
