Multi-User Switcher
Switch between Odoo user accounts without logging out. Perfect for administrators, support teams, and managers who need to quickly impersonate other users while maintaining full audit traceability of every switch.

1. Systray Switcher Icon
A new exchange icon appears in the top-right systray menu - click to see available users you can switch to.
2. User Selection Dropdown
Select any authorized user from the dropdown - the system instantly switches to that account.
3. Impersonation Active Indicator
When impersonating, a badge shows "Impersonating" - click to return to your original account.
4. User Switcher Configuration on User Form
Administrators configure allowed switch targets directly on each user's form under the "User Switcher" tab.
Installation & Configuration
- Install the Module: Install through Odoo Apps or manually copy to addons path
- Restart Server & Update: Restart Odoo and update the app list
- Configure User Permissions: Go to Settings -> Users & Companies -> Users
- Open User Form: Select a user and click the "User Switcher" tab
- Add Allowed Users: In "Allowed to Switch Into", add users this person can impersonate
- Bulk Configuration (Optional): Select multiple users in list view -> Action -> Manage Switcher Permissions
Step 1: Configure Allowed Switch Targets
As an administrator, navigate to Settings -> Users & Companies -> Users.
Open a user's form and click the "User Switcher" tab.
In the "Allowed to Switch Into" field, add the users this person is allowed to impersonate.
Step 2: Bulk Permission Management (Server Action)
To grant or revoke permissions for multiple users at once:
- Go to Settings -> Users & Companies -> Users
- Select multiple source users (the users who will gain the ability to switch)
- Click Action -> Manage Switcher Permissions
- Choose Grant or Revoke operation
- Select target accounts (the accounts they can switch into)
- Click Apply
Step 3: Switch to Another User
After configuration, the user will see a new exchange icon in the top-right systray menu.
Click the icon, select any authorized user from the dropdown, and the system instantly switches to that account.
A success notification appears, and the page reloads with the new user context.
Step 4: Restore Original Account
While impersonating, the systray icon shows an "Impersonating" badge.
Click the icon and select "Return to [Original User Name]" - the system restores your original account instantly.
Step 5: Review Audit Logs
Administrators can review all switch events at Settings -> Technical -> User Switcher -> Switch Audit Logs.
Each log contains:
- Switched From / Switched To users
- Action type (Switch / Restore)
- Timestamp with date and time
- IP address of the request
- Partial Session ID for traceability
Pro Tip - Security Best Practices
The module includes a dedicated User Switcher Administrator group. Members of this group can configure switcher permissions for all users and view all audit logs. Regular users can only switch into accounts explicitly allowed by an administrator - they cannot modify their own allowed list.
