User Switcher: Simplifying Multi-User Management
Unlock Flexibility with the User Switcher Feature
Seamless Switching: Revolutionizing User Navigation
The Multi-User Switcher module allows authorized users to effortlessly switch between different accounts within the Odoo interface, making it an essential tool for administrators, managers, and support teams. This feature is particularly useful for impersonating roles or troubleshooting, and the ability to switch accounts is controlled by administrators, who can grant permission to specific users.
Key Features of the Multi-User Switcher Module:
- Effortless Account Switching: Authorized users can switch between different accounts without logging out, enhancing convenience and efficiency.
- Administrator Configuration: Administrators have full control to specify which users can use the switcher and define the list of accounts each user can access.
- Seamless Odoo Integration: Integrated directly into the Odoo systray menu, enabling quick and easy access to the user-switching functionality.
- Permission-Based Access: Only users granted explicit permission by an administrator can utilize the user-switching feature, ensuring security and control.
- Supplementary Resources: Detailed screenshots and an instructional video are available for a comprehensive understanding of the feature.

Can't switch back to admin
One fatal flaw with this plugin. Once you switch to a non-admin user you can't switch back to admin. You have to log out and log back in, which kinda defeats the purpose of having this plugin. It needs a token to remember you are admin (or whatever user/role you are), even if you are acting as another user/role.
Can't switch back to admin
Hi,
Good morning,
Thank you for sharing your feedback — we understand the concern and would like to clarify the design choice behind this behavior.
The module is intentionally designed this way for security reasons.
To switch back to the admin (or any higher-privileged user) without logging out, that admin user must be explicitly added to the “Allowed Users” list in the module configuration.
Why this is required
Allowing an automatic or implicit “return to admin” without explicit permission could lead to privilege escalation risks.
For example:
A non-admin user could potentially regain admin access without proper authorization.
Session-based role switching without restriction can be exploited in shared or multi-user environments.
To avoid this, we restrict switching to only those users that are explicitly allowed by the administrator. If the admin user is not in the allowed list, the system correctly forces a logout to reset the session securely.
Recommended configuration
Add the admin user to the Allowed Users list in the module settings.
Once configured, you can freely switch between users (including back to admin) without logging out, and the workflow will work as expected.
This approach ensures a balance between convenience and security.
Relaxing this restriction by default could compromise system safety, which is why we have kept it restricted by design.
Thank you,
Team
