Native Odoo lets a rep type any discount on any line and confirm the order. There is no per-line ceiling, no escalation, no audit trail. Discount Approval puts a configurable margin floor in front of order confirmation: anything above the threshold parks in a manager queue until somebody senior signs off.
Without this module
Junior rep types 35% on a $50k quote, hits Confirm, the deal is done. The margin discussion happens at month-end, when nothing can be reversed.
With this module
Same quote pings the manager queue. Manager opens it, sees the line items, approves or rejects with one click. Rep is unblocked or told why — before anything ships.
What it does
One number in Sales settings. Default 20%. Set it to 100 to switch the gate off, or lower it to lock things down.
Sales rep sees a yellow alert on the quote: “Awaiting manager approval — max line discount X%”.
A new Sales → Discount Approvals menu (manager-only) lists every pending quote, ready to review.
Two buttons in the form header, manager-only. Reject requires a reason; the reason renders as a red banner.
Approval / rejection messages post to the chatter with approver, decision date, and (on rejection) the reason text.
Confirmation is blocked on any over-threshold quote that hasn’t been approved — the gate holds even for bulk actions and imported orders.
How it works
Every quote is watched for its largest line discount as your reps build it — automatically, with nothing to tag by hand.
The moment a discount crosses your threshold, the quote is parked for approval with a yellow banner — and can’t be confirmed until a manager signs off.
Manager opens the queue, clicks Approve (or types a reason and Reject). Approved quotes confirm cleanly.

Honest scope
The threshold applies to sale-order line discounts. It does not gate discounts on purchase orders, customer invoices, or the Point of Sale — those confirm as usual.
Approval triggers on the highest single line-discount percentage, not the blended order-level discount amount. A quote discounted lightly across many lines may still pass if no single line crosses the threshold.

Installation
1. Download from the Odoo App Store.
2. Extract to your Odoo addons directory.
3. Apps → Update Apps List → Install Discount Approval.
4. Set the threshold at Settings → Sales → Discount Approval Threshold.
