POS Pharmacy Prescription - Odoo 19
Manage pharmacy prescriptions in the backend and load them directly from the Point of Sale. Register medicines with quantities and dosage instructions, activate prescriptions for dispensing, and let cashiers quickly load a patient's prescription into the cart — with dosage notes appearing automatically on the order lines and the receipt.
What does this module provide?
NZ POS Pharmacy Prescription lets pharmacies register prescriptions with medicines, quantities, and dosage instructions, then activate them so they can be loaded from the Point of Sale. Cashiers can open a dedicated Prescriptions screen for the current customer, select a prescription, and load it into the cart in one click — with dosage notes added to the order lines automatically. Support both one-time prescriptions (marked as dispensed after payment) and chronic / recurring monthly prescriptions that stay active for repeated dispensing. You can also save the current cart or a past paid order as a new prescription, and track dispensing history from the backend.
KEY HIGHLIGHTS
Backend prescription management
Register prescriptions from the Pharmacy menu with medicines, quantities, dosage instructions, and a validity date — then activate them for POS use.
Chronic / recurring prescriptions
Enable Chronic / Recurring for monthly treatments that can be dispensed multiple times. Leave it off for one-time prescriptions that close after dispensing.
Load prescriptions from POS
From the POS Actions button or the full Prescriptions screen, open the current customer's prescriptions and load one into the cart instantly.
Dosage notes on order lines
Dosage instructions are copied to the customer note on each order line and appear clearly on the receipt for the patient.
Create from past orders
Save the current cart or a past paid order as a chronic / monthly prescription for the selected customer — ideal for recurring treatments.
Dispensing history in the backend
Track how many times a chronic prescription was dispensed and when it was last dispensed, directly from the prescription form.
1) Open Prescriptions from the Pharmacy Menu
From the main sidebar, open the Pharmacy application and go to Prescriptions. This is where you manage all patient prescriptions in the backend — create new ones, review active records, and prepare them for dispensing from the Point of Sale.

2) Add Medicines, Notes & Activate the Prescription
On the prescription form, add the prescribed medicines with their quantities and dosage instructions (notes). When everything is ready, click Activate so the prescription becomes available to load from the Point of Sale.

3) Chronic / Recurring vs One-Time Prescriptions
Enable Chronic / Recurring for monthly treatments that can be dispensed more than once — the prescription stays active after each sale. Leave it disabled for a one-time prescription: after it is dispensed from POS, it is closed and can no longer be loaded.

4) Open Prescriptions from POS for the Current Customer
Inside the Point of Sale, select the patient as the current customer, then use the Actions button and choose Prescriptions. This opens the list of active prescriptions linked to that customer so the cashier can dispense quickly.

5) Choose a Prescription from the Customer List
After clicking Prescriptions, the POS shows all available prescriptions for the selected customer. Review the list and pick the prescription you want to dispense.

6) Prescription Loaded Automatically into the Cart
As soon as you select a prescription, its medicines are added automatically to the product screen (cart), including the dosage notes on each order line — ready for payment.

7) Receipt Shows Products with Dosage Notes
The receipt displays every dispensed medicine together with its dosage instructions, so the patient leaves with clear guidance printed on the ticket.

8) Alternative Way — Full Prescriptions Screen
You can also open prescriptions from a dedicated, fuller POS screen. This broader view gives cashiers more space to browse, search, and manage prescriptions for the current customer.

9) Prescriptions Screen Overview
The Prescriptions screen lists key details for each record — patient, doctor, prescription number, validity, chronic status, medicines, and state — so you can find and load the right prescription at a glance.

10) Create a Prescription from Past Orders
From the Prescriptions screen, you can create a new prescription for the current customer based on their previous paid orders — ideal for turning a past sale into a chronic / monthly prescription.

11) Dedicated Past Orders Screen
A dedicated past-orders view lists the customer's previous tickets. Select an order to save it as a prescription with its products and notes ready for future dispensing.

12) Backend Dispensing History
In the backend prescription form, review dispensing details for chronic prescriptions: how many times the prescription was dispensed and when it was last dispensed — so the pharmacy always has a clear refill history.

Where do I create and manage prescriptions?
Open the Pharmacy application from the main menu, then go to Prescriptions. From there you can create records, add medicines with dosage notes, set validity, and activate prescriptions for POS use.
What is the difference between chronic and one-time prescriptions?
If Chronic / Recurring is enabled, the prescription is treated as a monthly treatment and stays active so it can be dispensed more than once. If it is disabled, the prescription is one-time: after it is paid and dispensed from POS, it is marked as dispensed and closed.
How do I load a prescription from the Point of Sale?
Select the patient as the current customer, then open Prescriptions from the Actions button (or from the full Prescriptions screen). Choose the prescription you want — its products and dosage notes are added to the cart automatically.
Do dosage instructions appear on the receipt?
Yes. Dosage notes are stored as customer notes on each order line, so they are visible on the product screen and printed clearly on the receipt.
Can I create a prescription from a past order?
Yes. From the POS Prescriptions screen you can open the dedicated past-orders view, pick a previous paid order for the customer, and save it as a new (typically chronic / monthly) prescription.
Can I track how many times a chronic prescription was dispensed?
Yes. The backend prescription form shows dispensing details for chronic prescriptions, including how many times it was dispensed and the date of the last dispense.
Do I need to activate a prescription before using it in POS?
Yes. After registering the medicines and notes, click Activate. Only activated prescriptions are available to load from the Point of Sale.
Which Odoo editions and deployment modes are supported?
