User guide — AI Ask Me

A friendly conversational assistant built right into Odoo to explain workflows and best practices.

1. What this module does

Ask Me adds a small floating button to the Odoo backend. When you click it, a chat window opens where you can ask anything about Odoo — from "how do I post a vendor bill" to "give me a checklist for a 3-step warehouse flow". Answers come back as clear steps, tips and cautions, and you can keep multiple chats side-by-side in the sidebar. Ask Me is an informational assistant: it never reads your business records and never edits anything for you.

2. Before you go live

  1. Install this module from Apps.
  2. Open Settings → Users & Companies → Users, open each user who should use the assistant, and enable Ask me: access.
  3. Go to Settings, search for Ask me, and turn on Enable Ask me.
  4. Choose your AI Provider — Google Gemini, OpenAI (ChatGPT), or Anthropic (Claude) — pick a model, and paste the matching API key.
  5. Save the settings — the floating Ask Me button appears for allowed users.

3. Using Ask Me day-to-day

  1. Click the Ask Me button at the bottom-right of the screen.
  2. Type your question and press Enter (or click Send).
  3. Refine the answer with follow-ups: "make this shorter", "show as a checklist", "explain with one product".
  4. Use + New chat for a different topic, and switch between past chats from the sidebar.
  5. Click × next to a chat to remove it; close the window with the top-right ×.

4. What you'll see

  • A clean chat window with your messages on one side and the assistant's replies on the other.
  • A sidebar listing your past chats, sorted by most recently used.
  • Friendly fallback messages when the model is briefly busy, with a suggestion to retry or pick a lighter model.

1. How do I open Ask Me?
Click the Ask Me floating button at the bottom-right of any Odoo backend page. The chat opens in a window with a sidebar for your past chats.
2. Who can see and use the assistant?
Only users who are members of the Ask me: access group. Administrators decide who is in that group, and the button is hidden for everyone else.
3. Where do I configure the provider, model, and API key?
Go to Settings and search for Ask me. Turn the toggle on, pick a provider (Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic), choose a model from that provider, and paste the matching API key. Save — that's it.
3b. Which AI providers and models are supported?
  • Google Gemini — Gemini 2.5 Flash, 2.5 Pro, 2.0 Flash, 2.0 Flash Lite, 1.5 Pro, 1.5 Flash.
  • OpenAI (ChatGPT) — GPT-5, GPT-5 mini, GPT-4.1, GPT-4.1 mini, GPT-4o, GPT-4o mini, GPT-4 Turbo, GPT-4, GPT-3.5 Turbo, o1, o1 mini, o3 mini.

4. Will Ask Me change my Odoo records?
No. Ask Me is an advisory assistant only. It explains how to do things in Odoo, but it never creates, edits, or deletes records on your behalf.
5. Where are my chats stored?
Each user's chats are stored locally in their own browser. They are not saved to the Odoo database and are not visible to other users.
6. What if the model is busy or my request fails?
Ask Me shows a friendly message and retries automatically on transient errors; it can also fall back to a lighter model. If problems persist, double-check the API key and your model selection in Settings.
7. Which Odoo environments are supported?
The module targets Odoo 19 (Community and Enterprise) and runs on Odoo.sh like other standard apps.
