Block silent auto-save

Stops Odoo's default behaviour of saving silently when you leave a record, so changes are never committed without your knowledge.

Confirmation on form views

A clear popup appears before saving changes on any form view, so you can review what is about to be committed.

Confirmation on list views

The same popup appears for inline edits on list / table views, so quick edits cannot slip through unchecked.

Button click protection

If you click a workflow button while you have unsaved changes, the popup asks first instead of saving and acting silently.

Save option

Click Save on the popup to keep your changes and continue with the original navigation or action.

Discard option

Click Discard to throw away your changes; for brand-new records that are discarded, the empty draft is removed.

Stay option

Click Stay to close the popup and keep editing on the same record without saving or losing anything.

No empty drafts left behind

When you discard a brand-new record, the empty draft is cleaned up automatically so your database stays tidy.

User guide

Install the module and Odoo immediately starts asking before it saves anything. There is nothing to configure.

1. Install the module

  1. Open Apps, remove the Apps filter, and search Auto Save Restrict.
  2. Click Install. The module depends only on the standard Base and Sales apps.

2. Edit a record on a form view

  1. Open any record and change one or more fields.
  2. Click the breadcrumb, navigate away, or click a workflow button.
  3. A popup appears with three options: Save, Discard, or Stay.

3. Edit a record on a list view

  1. Open any list view and edit a row inline.
  2. Click another row, change the page, or run a list action.
  3. The same confirmation popup appears so the inline change cannot slip through unchecked.

4. Pick what to do

  • Save: commits your changes and continues with the action you started.
  • Discard: throws away your changes; for brand-new records, the empty draft is removed automatically.
  • Stay: closes the popup and keeps you on the record so you can keep editing.

5. Nothing to configure

There are no settings, toggles, or per-model setup. As soon as the module is installed it works on every form view and every list view across the database.

1. When does the popup appear?
Whenever you have unsaved changes and you try to leave a record, switch rows on a list, or click a button. The popup intercepts the auto-save and lets you decide.
2. What do the three buttons do?
Save keeps your changes and continues the action; Discard throws them away; Stay closes the popup and leaves you on the record to keep editing.
3. Does it work on list (table) views as well?
Yes. The same confirmation popup applies to inline edits on list views, so quick edits cannot be saved silently.
4. What happens if I discard a brand new record?
The empty draft is removed automatically, so no leftover blank record is left in your database.
5. Is there anything to configure?
No. Install the module and it works everywhere immediately. There are no per-user, per-model, or global settings to manage.
6. Does it cover workflow buttons?
Yes. If you click a workflow button while you have unsaved changes, the popup is shown first so the click does not silently trigger a save and an action together.
7. Is it compatible with Odoo 19?
Yes. This module targets Odoo 19.0 and works on both Community and Enterprise editions. It depends only on the standard Base and Sales apps.
