Per-user preference

Every user picks the chatter position they like. The choice is stored on the user profile and applies only to that user.

Responsive default

The Responsive option lets Odoo decide: chatter sits beside the form on large screens and below the form on small screens.

Bottom layout

Pin the chatter below the form so the form spans the full width of the page, perfect for wide records with many fields.

Sided layout

Always keep the chatter on the right side of the form on large screens, so messages and activities stay in view while you work.

No impact on colleagues

Your choice only changes your own screen. Other users keep their own preferred chatter position without any disruption.

Works on every form

Applies across all Odoo form views that show the chatter, including contacts, sales orders, invoices, projects, and more.

Set it from My Profile

Pick the layout from your My Profile page, the same place where you manage your other personal preferences.

User guide

Install the module, then let each user pick the chatter position they prefer from the My Profile page. The choice applies only to that user.

1. Install the module

  1. Open Apps, remove the Apps filter, and search Chatter Position.
  2. Click Install. There are no third-party dependencies.

2. Open My Profile

  1. Click your name or profile picture at the top right of the screen.
  2. Click My Profile.

3. Choose your chatter layout

  1. Find the Chatter Position option on your profile.
  2. Pick one of the three layouts:
  3. Responsive: Odoo decides automatically, beside the form on large screens and below on small screens.
  4. Bottom: chatter below the form so the form takes full width.
  5. Sided: chatter on the right side of the form on large screens.

4. Save and refresh

  1. Click Save.
  2. Reload the page in your browser to apply the new layout across all form views.

5. Personal & private

  • The setting is stored on your user record and only affects your screen.
  • Other team members keep their own preferred layout without any change.
  • Change it any time from My Profile as your habits or screen size change.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which layouts can I choose?
Three options: Responsive (the default, Odoo decides), Bottom (chatter below the form), and Sided (chatter on the right of the form on large screens).
2. Does my choice affect other users?
No. The preference is stored on your own user profile and applies only to your screen. Other users keep their own chosen layout without any change.
3. Where do I change the setting?
Click your name or avatar at the top right and open My Profile. The Chatter Position field is on your profile alongside your other personal preferences.
4. Do I need to log out to see the new layout?
No. Save the preference and refresh the page in your browser; the new chatter layout is applied across every form view right away.
5. Does it work on every form view?
Yes. The layout applies wherever Odoo shows the chatter, including contacts, sales orders, invoices, projects, and other records that use the message panel.
6. Are there any third-party dependencies?
No. The module is a lightweight preference layer with no third-party dependencies, so it slots into any Odoo database easily.
7. Is it compatible with Odoo 19?
Yes. This module targets Odoo 19 and works on both Community and Enterprise editions.
