Each time a new product variant is saved, eligible users receive an HTML notification so the catalog change does not go unnoticed.

First variant and extras

User guide — Product variant email notifications

Keep stakeholders informed automatically whenever a new variant is added to your catalog.


1. What this module does

Whenever a new product variant is created in the database, the app sends one notification email to each eligible user in the Product Variant: New Variant Alerts group. Eligible means: same company as the variant (falling back to the template or current company when the variant has no company), and a valid email on the user’s contact. The message is rendered from the built-in template and posted through Odoo’s normal mail flow.


2. Before you go live

  1. Install Product and this module from Apps.
  2. Open Settings → Users & Companies → Users, open each notifier, and under access rights enable Product Variant: New Variant Alerts (listed with other product-related options).
  3. Confirm each notifier has an email address on their user or linked partner.
  4. Set up your outgoing mail server if you have not already.

3. Creating variants in daily work

  1. Create a new product and save—when the first variant row is created, notifications go out.
  2. Add attributes or open the Variants tab and create more variants; each new variant triggers its own notification.
  3. No extra button is required: saving the variant is enough.

4. What recipients see

  • An HTML email with variant display name, product template, internal reference (if any), created on/by, and a View variant link.
  • If nobody matches company and email rules, the variant is still created; simply no mail is sent.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. When exactly is the email sent?
As soon as a new product variant is created—typically when you save a new product (first variant) or add another variant from attributes or the Variants list.
2. Who receives the message?
Users you add to Product Variant: New Variant Alerts whose company matches the variant’s company rules and who have an email on their profile.
3. Is there one email per variant?
Yes—each new variant creation triggers its own notification round to eligible recipients. Editing an existing variant without creating a new one does not re-trigger this flow.
4. Can I change the email wording?
Yes. Administrators can open the related email template under Technical settings and adjust subject and body; the module ships a default layout you can tailor to your brand.
5. What if nobody gets the email?
Check that at least one user is in the alerts group, belongs to the correct company, has an email, and that outgoing mail is configured. The product or variant is still saved even when mail is skipped.
6. Does multi-company work?
Yes. Recipients are limited to those whose company matches the variant context (variant company, else template company, else the current company), so each company’s team only sees its own catalog events.
7. Which Odoo environments are supported?
The module targets Odoo 19 (Community and Enterprise) and runs on Odoo.sh like other standard apps.
