User guide

Install the module, turn on the master switch in General Settings, choose preview for all reports or only selected ones, refresh the browser, and every opted-in report opens in a clean preview window.

1. Install the module

  1. Open Apps, remove the Apps filter, and search Report PDF Preview.
  2. Click Install. The module depends only on standard base and web; no extra Python packages or Enterprise modules are required.

2. Turn on the master switch

  1. Go to Settings > General Settings > Reporting.
  2. Enable PDF Preview Before Download.
  3. Choose a mode: Enable Preview For All Reports (default) to preview every PDF report, or Selected Reports to pick a curated list.

3. Pick reports (Selected Reports mode)

  1. In Selected Reports mode, a report picker appears.
  2. Add the reports that should use preview, for example Sales Order, Invoice, Purchase Order, Delivery Slip, or any custom report.
  3. All other reports keep Odoo's default direct-download behaviour.
  4. Click Save and refresh the web client (Ctrl/Cmd-R) so the new settings load.

4. Toggle a single report

  1. Go to Settings > Technical > Reporting > Reports.
  2. Open the report you want to control.
  3. Flip the Preview Before Printing toggle, save, and refresh the web client.

5. Print & preview

  • Click Print on any opted-in report; the preview window opens immediately.
  • Use the toolbar to Zoom In, Zoom Out, Print, Download, Open in New Tab, or Close the preview.
  • Reports that are not opted in continue to download directly without any change.

1. What does the preview window let me do?
Zoom In, Zoom Out, Print, Download, Open in New Tab, and Close. Everything you need before deciding whether to print or send the file.
2. Where do I turn the feature on or off?
Open Settings > General Settings > Reporting and use the PDF Preview Before Download master switch. The feature is off by default.
3. Can I enable it only for specific reports?
Yes. Switch to Selected Reports mode and add the reports you want to preview (Sales Order, Invoice, Purchase Order, Delivery Slip, custom reports, and more). All other reports keep their default behaviour.
4. Can I flip a single report on or off?
Yes. Under Settings > Technical > Reporting > Reports, every report has its own Preview Before Printing toggle.
5. Why don't my new settings show up right away?
The settings are read into the browser session at page load. After changing anything, refresh the web client (Ctrl/Cmd-R) so the new values apply.
6. Does it patch Odoo or add third-party libraries?
No. It uses Odoo's own bundled PDF.js viewer and the documented ir.actions.report handlers registry. No core files are patched and no extra Python or JS packages are added.
7. Which Odoo versions are supported?
Dedicated builds are provided for Odoo 17.0, 18.0, and 19.0, on Community and Enterprise editions.
