Remove the Delete option from the gear menu in form view, list view, and kanban view for selected users.

Administrator always exempt

Validation prevents adding the Administrator to a rule so you can never accidentally lock yourself out of any action.

User guide

Install the module, then create one or more Hide Button Rules to control which actions each user can see, globally or per model.

1. Install the module

  1. Open Apps, remove the Apps filter, and search Hide Delete Button.
  2. Click Install.

2. Create a global rule

  1. Go to Settings > Technical > Hide Button Rules.
  2. Click New and fill in Name, Companies, and Restricted Users.
  3. Tick Apply to All Models.
  4. On the Action Restrictions tab, enable the actions to hide, e.g. Hide Delete, Hide Archive/Unarchive, Hide Duplicate.
  5. Click Save. The restricted users will see the actions removed from form, list, and kanban views.

3. Create a model-specific rule

  1. Go to Settings > Technical > Hide Button Rules and click New.
  2. Set Name, Companies, and Restricted Users.
  3. Leave Apply to All Models unchecked.
  4. In Specific Models, pick the models you want to restrict, e.g. Sales Order.
  5. On the Action Restrictions tab, enable the actions to hide, e.g. Hide Export and Hide Print.
  6. Click Save.

4. Make a model read-only

  1. Create a new rule, leave Apply to All Models unchecked, and pick the target model in Specific Models (e.g. Contact).
  2. On the Action Restrictions tab, enable Hide Create, Hide Edit, and Hide Delete.
  3. Click Save. Restricted users will see Contacts as read-only.

5. Manage rules from the user form

  • Go to Settings > Users and Companies > Users and open a user.
  • Open the Hide Button Rules tab to see every rule assigned to the user with its restriction flags.
  • Add or remove rules directly from this tab as needed.
  • To pause a rule entirely, open it and use the Active toggle to archive it without losing the configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Which actions can the module hide?
Delete, Archive/Unarchive, Duplicate, Create, Edit, Export, and Print. Each can be toggled independently on the Action Restrictions tab of a rule.
2. Will the Administrator be affected?
No. The Administrator is always exempt from every rule. The module also raises a validation error if you try to add an Administrator to a rule's Restricted Users field.
3. Can I apply a rule to every model at once?
Yes. Tick Apply to All Models on the rule and the selected restrictions will apply across the entire database for the chosen users.
4. Can I restrict only specific models like Sales Order or Contact?
Yes. Leave Apply to All Models unchecked and pick the models you want in the Specific Models field. The restrictions apply only on those models.
5. What if a user has multiple rules?
Rules combine in the most restrictive way. A user with a global rule plus a model-specific rule will see the global restrictions everywhere and the additional model-specific restrictions on the targeted model.
6. Can I pause a rule without deleting it?
Yes. Use the Active toggle on the rule to archive it. The configuration is kept and can be reactivated whenever needed.
7. Does it also hide actions in kanban view?
Yes. Restrictions apply across form view, list view, and kanban view, so users do not have a back door to the hidden actions.
