Overview
Find the structures still pointing at a superseded part, before production does.
Parts get revised one at a time, structures do not. A component is released at revision B, and the twenty bills of material that use it keep pointing at revision A, quietly, until the day the shop floor picks the superseded item or purchasing orders a part that engineering replaced six months ago. Nobody made a mistake: the information was simply spread over too many structures for anyone to check.
This module does the checking. It knows which bills of material contain a component that is no longer at its latest revision, at any depth of the tree, and it can bring them back in line.
What it does
Obsolescence made visible
Each bill of material carries the answer to one question: does it contain a component that is not at the latest revision? Directly, or anywhere below it in the tree. The structures that need attention can be listed instead of hunted.
Two ways to realign
Either the obsolete lines are replaced in place with the current revision of each component, or a new bill of material is created using the latest revision of everything, leaving the old one untouched as the record of what was built before.
The whole tree, or one level
The realignment can descend the structure, so a change deep in a sub assembly reaches the top level, rather than fixing the first level and leaving the problem one step down.
It checks by itself
Two scheduled jobs run the two strategies on their own, so obsolescence is found by the system overnight instead of by a customer complaint. The check is also available on demand, on a single structure.
The bills of material: the ones in red hold a component that is no longer at its latest revision.
The Boms To Update filter isolates exactly those, so the work to do is a list instead of a search.
The computation type decides how they are realigned: obsolete lines replaced in place, or a new bill of material at the latest revisions.
- ▪ Every BOM says whether it holds an out of date component
- ▪ Detection through the whole structure, not only the first level
- ▪ Realign in place, or generate a new BOM at the latest revisions
- ▪ Scheduled nightly, or run on demand on one structure
- ▪ A dedicated report listing the obsolete lines
