What this module does (detailed)
This add-on extends Odoo 19 Point of Sale and Accounting so cashiers can settle orders in currencies other than the company currency when you allow it in configuration. Amounts follow your currency rates and journals, keeping the general ledger consistent with standard Odoo multi-currency behaviour.
Standalone architecture
Depends only on point_of_sale and account. Ideal if you want FX POS without installing the full retail suite.
Aligned with accounting
Uses activated currencies and exchange rates from Accounting; payments post in a traceable way for reconciliation and reporting.
Retail & hospitality
Suitable for border shops, airports, hotels, and any counter that quotes prices in local and international money.
Reporting context
Works with Odoo reporting patterns for multi-currency POS sessions and session closing (per your Odoo setup).
How it works
After installation, POS assets load client logic that exposes payment flows in supported currencies. The backend ties payment methods and journals to the currencies you enable; conversion uses the rate table you maintain under Accounting → Currencies.
Installation & setup (step by step)
- Prerequisites: Odoo 19, Accounting app installed, chart of accounts configured.
- Multi-currency in Accounting: Activate additional currencies (Accounting → Currencies), maintain rates (manual or automatic provider).
- Install module: Apps → Update App List → search POS Multi Currency / technical name
pos_retail_multi_currency→ Install. - POS configuration: Open Point of Sale → Configuration → Point of Sale and related settings screens added by the module — enable payment methods / options for each foreign currency you need on the counter.
- Payment methods / journals: Map POS payment types to the correct journals so statements and bank reconciliation remain clean.
- Training: Train cashiers to select the payment currency before validating; run test orders in staging.
- Upgrade: Upgrade the module after each release; verify rates after Odoo updates.
Tip: If you already use POS Retail, evaluate whether its built-in multi-currency overlaps with this module to avoid duplicate configuration.
