Quick Edit Excel
Click on any Excel file attached to a record and edit it directly in Odoo using O-Spreadsheet. No download, no Office, no hassle — just click, edit, save.
The Problem
Every time someone attaches an Excel file to a record, you have to download it, open it in Office or Google Sheets, edit it, then re-upload. It's slow, error-prone, and breaks the workflow.
|
🖱
Click & EditClick any .xlsx attachment in Chatter or form view. The FileViewer opens, click "Edit Excel" — a full spreadsheet editor opens in a new tab. |
📊
O-Spreadsheet PowerBuilt on Odoo's own O-Spreadsheet engine. Formulas, formatting, merged cells, multiple sheets — all preserved and editable. |
💾
Save Back InstantlyClick Save and the Excel file is updated directly in Odoo. The attachment is overwritten — no re-upload needed. |
|
💬
Chatter AttachmentsWorks with Excel files attached via chatter messages. Click the attachment, see the preview, hit Edit Excel. |
📄
Binary FieldsAlso works with Binary and Many2many Binary fields on form views. Edit Excel files stored in any field type. |
⚡
Smart ConversionUses openpyxl on the backend to parse .xlsx into O-Spreadsheet format. Styles, formulas, merges, and number formats are preserved. |
How It Works
3 clicks from attachment to editing. No configuration needed.
Click the Excel File
In any record's chatter or form view, click on an .xlsx attachment. The FileViewer opens.
Click Edit Excel
In the FileViewer header, next to the Download button, you'll see the "Edit Excel" button. Click it.
Edit & Save
A full spreadsheet editor opens. Make your changes, click Save — the file is updated directly in Odoo.
See It In Action
Real screenshots from Odoo showing the full Quick Edit Excel flow: hover, click, edit in a new tab and save directly back into the attachment.
Hover To Reveal Zoom Cursor
Move your mouse over the Excel attachment name: the cursor changes into a magnifying glass to indicate that you can open it in the editor, instead of just downloading the file.
Click Edit Excel In The Viewer
The standard Odoo FileViewer opens first. Next to the Download button you get an extra Edit Excel button that launches the spreadsheet editor in a new browser tab.
Work In The O-Spreadsheet Editor
The Excel workbook opens in a dedicated tab using Odoo’s own spreadsheet engine. You can change formulas, formats, insert rows or columns – everything happens inside Odoo.
One Click Save To Odoo
Press Save in the editor: the module exports the workbook back to .xlsx and overwrites the original attachment. No duplicate files, no manual upload.
Works On Binary & Many2many Binary Fields
The same hover‑and‑click behavior is available on binary fields and many2many_binary widgets in form views, so any Excel stored on the record can be edited in place.
