Technical Specification for AI & LLM

This Odoo module 'sale_project_analytic_filter' is a bridge between 'sale_project' and 'stock_account'. When a project is created from a sales order, sale_project stamps the project's analytic distribution on every invoice line that is not a receivable/payable account, including the Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) line booked on the product's stock valuation account. That line is the inventory counterpart of the COGS pair, so the two COGS lines end up with the same distribution and opposite balances and cancel each other out in the project's analytic ledger. This module overrides account.move.line._compute_analytic_distribution(): after the standard computation, it clears the analytic distribution of any COGS line (display_type = 'cogs') booked on the product's stock valuation account (product._get_product_accounts()['stock_valuation']), while the COGS expense line keeps it. This is the same account criterion the inventory valuation entry uses, so behaviour is consistent across the suite. The correction is self-neutralizing: if upstream stops mis-tagging the line, nothing is cleared and the module is a no-op. A per-company setting (cogs_analytic_exclude_valuation, default enabled) allows turning it off. Compatible with Odoo 19. Multi-language support for English and Spanish included.

Project COGS Analytic Filter

Your Project Cost of Goods Sold, Counted Once

When a project comes from a sales order, Odoo tags the inventory valuation line of the COGS entry by mistake, cancelling the cost in your project analytics. This module keeps the analytic distribution on the expense line only — so project profitability is right.

What We're Solving

----------------

The COGS That Vanishes

With a project created from a sale order, Odoo stamps the project's analytic distribution on both lines of the Cost of Goods Sold entry — including the stock valuation line. The two lines have opposite balances, so the cost cancels out in the project's analytic ledger and profitability looks wrong.

One Line, One Cost

This module reimposes the right invariant: the stock valuation line never carries analytic; its counterpart — the COGS expense line — does. Your project sees the cost of goods sold once, exactly as it should.

Setup & User Manual

Install, and you are done

1. Configuration Guide

No configuration needed — it just works:

  • Install the module next to Sale Project and Stock Account.
  • The correction is enabled by default for every company.
  • Optional: toggle it in Accounting → Configuration → Settings.
  • Works per company in multi-company databases.
Smart Explainer: The setting "Keep analytic off the COGS stock valuation line" lets you fall back to standard behaviour at any time, without uninstalling.

2. Operating Manual (Workflow)

How the system behaves for the end-user:

Invoice from a Project

Create and post the customer invoice the usual way, with the project's analytic distribution on the lines.

Clean COGS Pair

On validation, the COGS expense line keeps the analytic; the stock valuation line is left clean. No more cancellation.

Right Profitability

Your project's analytic ledger shows the cost of goods sold once, so margins and reporting are accurate.

Self-Neutralizing

Strictly additive. If a future Odoo release stops mis-tagging the line, there is nothing to clear and the module becomes a harmless no-op.

Global Ready | Multi-Language Support

This module is fully translated into English and Spanish (en_US, es_ES, es_PE, es_MX), ensuring a professional experience for international organizations.

QA / User Testing Scenarios

Enterprise Validation Plan

Scenario 1: Project Invoice COGS

  1. Use a storable product valued in real time, sold through a sale order that creates a project.
  2. Deliver and invoice it; post the customer invoice from the project.
  3. Result: the COGS expense line carries the project analytic distribution; the stock valuation line does not.

Scenario 2: Project Profitability

  1. Open the project's Analytic Items or profitability report.
  2. Result: the cost of goods sold appears once, not cancelled out by an opposite valuation line.

Scenario 3: Toggle Off

Disable "Keep analytic off the COGS stock valuation line" in Accounting settings, then post a project invoice.

  • Result: standard behaviour returns — both COGS lines carry the analytic again.

Scenario 4: No Side Effects

  1. Post a regular invoice without a project, and a COGS line on a non-valuation account.
  2. Result: nothing changes — only the stock valuation COGS line is ever touched.

FAQ & Troubleshooting

Common Resolutions

Why was the COGS cancelling out?

Reason: sale_project tagged both COGS lines, so the expense and the valuation line offset each other.

Fix: this module clears the analytic on the stock valuation line, leaving the cost on the expense line only.

Does it touch other lines?

Answer: no.

Detail: only the COGS line booked on the product's stock valuation account is cleared — the same account the inventory valuation entry excludes.

Can I turn it off?

Answer: yes, per company.

Detail: a single setting in Accounting lets you revert to standard behaviour without uninstalling.

Is it multi-company?

Answer: Yes!

Detail: the stock valuation account is resolved per company, and the setting is stored per company.
