Odoo 19 â All Form View Edit, Save & Discard Control
Since Odoo 16, forms open directly in edit mode, making accidental modifications easy. This module brings back the controlled readonly-first approach for every model in Odoo 19 without any per-view configuration.
Who is this for? Odoo 19 administrators and businesses that migrated from older Odoo versions and want the classic Edit/Save/Discard workflow restored globally â preventing accidental data changes in forms across all modules. Works on Odoo.sh and On-Premise.
Key Features:
- Readonly by Default All Odoo 19 form views open in readonly mode, preventing accidental edits across every model
- Explicit Edit Button Users must click Edit to enter edit mode intentionally â restores the classic Odoo workflow
- Discard Always Visible in Edit Mode Discard button appears immediately after clicking Edit, even before any field changes are made
- Save Appears Only on Changes Save button shows only when actual field modifications are made â keeps the toolbar clean
- Auto Return to Readonly After Save or Discard, the form automatically switches back to readonly mode in Odoo 19
- Works for All Models No model-specific configuration â applies globally to every form view in Odoo 19
How it works:
Form View Default Behavior in Odoo 19

After installing â Odoo 19 form opens in readonly mode with explicit Edit button:
Forms open in readonly mode. Users see the record clearly and click Edit only when they intend to make changes.

Editing a Record in Odoo 19
Clicking Edit enables edit mode and immediately shows the Discard button. Save appears only when actual changes are made.

Save Button Appears After Field Changes in Odoo 19
Once a field value is modified, the Save button appears alongside Discard so the user can commit or revert their changes.

- The module uses a standard Odoo JavaScript extension approach that applies globally. It has been tested across standard Odoo 19 modules including Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Accounting, HR, and CRM.
- Does it work with custom models and views?
- Yes â since it applies globally to all form views in Odoo 19, custom module forms will also open in readonly mode with the Edit button.
