Shipping Price Based on Distance

The Shipping Price Based on Distance module automatically calculates and adds shipping charges to the order line based on the distance between the warehouse and the customer's address.

To configure the Shipping Distance feature in Odoo, follow these steps:

1. Go to the Settings menu.
2. Under the Shipping section, locate the Shipping Distance option.
3. Select one of the available distance calculation providers:
   • Geopy: enables distance calculation through the Geopy library.
   • Google Routes API: enables distance calculation through Google Routes (requires entering an API key).
4. Click Save to apply the settings.

To set up a delivery method that applies pricing based on distance, follow these steps:

1. Open the Sales app.
2. Go to Configuration > Delivery Methods and create a new record.
3. Enter the required details for your delivery method.
4. Ensure the Provider is set to Based on Rules.
5. Under the Pricing tab, add your distance ranges and their corresponding prices.
6. Make sure to publish the delivery method using the smart button in the header.

When adding a new pricing rule, a pop-up window will appear where you can define the conditions and cost.

1. Set the required distance condition for the rule.
2. Enter the corresponding price for that distance range.
3. Click Save to add the rule to the delivery method.

To configure a warehouse with a geocoded address, follow these steps:

1. Go to the Inventory app.
2. Open Configuration > Warehouses and create a new warehouse.
3. Fill in the warehouse details, including the complete address.
4. Save the record. The system will automatically calculate the geo-location under the Partner Assignment section.

To create a customer with an auto-calculated geo-location, follow these steps:

1. Open the Contacts app.
2. Create a new contact and select Customer as the contact type.
3. Fill in all required details, including the complete address.
4. Save the record. The geo-location under the Partner Assignment section will be automatically calculated.

To apply distance-based shipping on a sales order, follow these steps:

1. Open the Sales app.
2. Create a new Quotation and fill in the required details.
3. Select the same customer whose address and geo-coordinates you configured earlier.
4. Confirm the quotation to convert it into a sales order.
5. At the bottom-right corner, click the Add Shipping button.

After clicking the Add Shipping button, a pop-up window will appear where you can apply the shipping charges.

1. Select the delivery method that you created earlier.
2. The shipping cost will be automatically fetched based on the distance between the warehouse address and the customer's address.
3. Click Add to apply the calculated shipping cost to the sales order.

After adding the shipping method, the calculated distance-based shipping cost will appear in the order lines.

1. The system automatically adds the shipping charge based on your configured rules.
2. You can review the added shipping line directly in the sales order.

Distance-based shipping also works seamlessly on the website shop. Follow the steps below to test it:

1. Open the Website app.
2. Go to the Shop page.
3. Select any product from the catalog.
4. Click Add to Cart to proceed.

After adding a product to the cart, continue with the checkout process to apply distance-based shipping.

1. Click the Cart icon at the top of the website.
2. Review your cart items.
3. Click the Checkout button to proceed.

During checkout, customers can choose the delivery method you created. Odoo automatically calculates the shipping cost based on the distance between the warehouse and the customer's address.

1. Select your custom Delivery Method from the list.
2. Check the Order Summary on the right side.
3. The shipping price will be auto-calculated based on warehouse–customer distance and the pricing rules you configured.

For correct distance-based shipping calculations, ensure customer addresses created from the website have valid geo-coordinates.

1. Open the customer record in the Contacts app.
2. Verify that Longitude and Latitude are filled.
3. If values are missing, click Compute Based on Address to auto-generate the geo-location.
