Hide Menu By User

Overview

sm_hide_menu_by_user hides selected backend menus for specific users in Odoo 19.

Administrators can hide menus per user without changing the user's security groups or model access rights. This is useful when a user must keep technical permissions but should not see selected menu entries in the backend.

Security

The module adds a record rule on ir.ui.menu. Menus selected for a user are filtered from that user's backend menu search.

The module does not remove model access rights. If a user opens a hidden model through another route and still has access rights, standard Odoo security still applies.

Installation

  1. Copy sm_hide_menu_by_user into an Odoo addons path.
  2. Restart Odoo.
  3. Update the Apps list.
  4. Install Hide Menu By User.

Command-line install or update:

python3 /path/to/odoo-server \
   -c /path/to/odoo.conf \
   -d <database_name> \
   -u sm_hide_menu_by_user

Usage

  1. Go to Settings > Users & Companies > Users.
  2. Open a user.
  3. Open the Hidden Menus tab.
  4. Add menus that should be hidden for this user.
  5. Save the user.
  6. Ask the user to refresh the browser or log in again.
