Standard Odoo Inventory — What's Missing
- Effective date on receipts does not reflect in Move History
- Stock Valuation always shows the system date, not the actual receipt date
- Backdated stock entries cannot be accurately tracked
- Accounting valuation entries use the wrong date when backdating
- No way to override the system date for stock moves before validation
- Discrepancies between physical receipt date and recorded stock date
What This Module Solves
- Effective date entered on receipt is correctly reflected in Move History
- Stock Valuation report shows the actual effective date of the transfer
- Backdated receipts are accurately recorded with the correct date
- Accounting valuation entries use the effective date set before validation
- Full control over the stock move date via a dedicated Effective Date field
- Consistent date tracking across inventory, valuation, and accounting
In standard Odoo Inventory, when a warehouse receipt is created and validated, the system uses the current date as the stock move date. If the actual physical receipt occurred on a different date — for example, goods received on June 1st but entered into the system on June 15th — there is no built-in mechanism to reflect that actual date in the Move History or Stock Valuation report.
The Stock Effective Date module solves this by allowing users to set an Effective Date on any receipt (or transfer) before validation. Once set, this date is used as the actual stock move date — replacing the system date — and appears correctly in both the Move History and the Stock Valuation report.
This is especially important for businesses that receive goods on one date but process them in the system later. Without this feature, inventory records and accounting valuation entries carry the wrong date, causing discrepancies in financial reports, stock audits, and period-end closing.
The module overrides the stock move date at the time of validation, ensuring that accounting valuation journal entries are also posted with the correct effective date rather than the system date.
This module is ideal for warehouses, logistics companies, manufacturing firms, and any business that needs accurate date control over inventory movements and corresponding financial entries in Odoo.
Effective Date on Receipts
Set a custom effective date on any receipt or transfer before validation to override the system date.
Correct Move History Date
The effective date appears in Move History instead of the system date, ensuring accurate tracking.
Accurate Stock Valuation
Stock Valuation report reflects the effective date, giving correct period-wise inventory value.
Accounting Valuation Override
Accounting valuation journal entries are posted using the effective date, not the system date.
Backdated Stock Entry
Enter goods received in a prior period with the correct date for accurate inventory and financial reporting.
Pre-Validation Date Control
The effective date must be set before validation, giving users full control over the recorded date.
Warehouses & Logistics
Warehouses receiving goods on one date but entering them into the system on another need correct date stamping.
Manufacturing Firms
Manufacturers requiring precise inventory dating for production planning and period-end stock reporting.
Finance & Accounting Teams
Accountants who need inventory valuation journal entries to reflect the actual receipt date for audits.
Create Receipt
Go to Inventory → Operations → Receipts and create a new receipt.
Set Effective Date
Enter the actual physical receipt date in the Effective Date field before validation.
Validate Transfer
Click Validate — the effective date overrides the system date for the stock move.
Check History & Valuation
The effective date appears in Move History and Stock Valuation, replacing the system date.
Built for Odoo Inventory & Stock Valuation Accuracy
Fully compatible with Odoo 19 Inventory. Lightweight implementation that overrides the stock move date with your custom effective date across Move History, Stock Valuation, and Accounting Valuation entries.
Navigate to Receipts
Go to Inventory → Operations → Receipts from the top menu. Click New to create a new receipt, or open an existing draft receipt that needs to be processed with a backdated effective date.
Inventory → Operations → Receipts → New
Set the Effective Date Before Validation
On the receipt form, locate the Effective Date field. This is the actual physical receipt/delivery date. Set this date before clicking Validate — it will override the system date for all stock moves and accounting valuation entries generated by this receipt. The tooltip reads: "Actual physical receipt/delivery date. Set this before validation to override the system date for stock moves and accounting valuation entries."
Receipt Form → Effective Date field → Enter actual receipt date
Fill Receipt Details and Save
Fill in the Receive From (vendor/supplier), add the product(s) under the Operations tab, and set the demand quantity. The receipt is saved with its reference (e.g. WH/IN/00016), the supplier (Acme Corporation), and the effective date (e.g. 06/01/2026) is recorded on the form.
Receipt details filled → Effective Date 06/01/2026 → Product added
Effective Date Reflected in Move History
After validating the receipt, go to Inventory → Reporting → Move History. The transfer (e.g. WH/IN/00016) now appears with the effective date (06/01/2026 09:00:00) in the Date column — not the system date on which validation was performed. This confirms that the stock move date has been correctly overridden.
Move History → WH/IN/00016 → Date shows 06/01/2026 (Effective Date)
Effective Date Reflected in Stock Valuation
Navigate to Inventory → Reporting → Stock Valuation. The valuation entry for WH/IN/00016 shows the date as 06/01/2026 09:00:00 — matching the effective date set on the receipt. This ensures that accounting valuation entries are also posted with the correct date, enabling accurate period-wise financial reporting and inventory audits.
Stock Valuation → WH/IN/00016 → Date shows 06/01/2026 (Effective Date)
