Trial Balance - Debit/Credit Initial & End Balance
Restores the classic Odoo 17/18 Trial Balance layout in Odoo 19 - separate Debit and Credit columns for both the Initial Balance and the End Balance, instead of one collapsed net "Balance" column.
The standard Odoo 19 Trial Balance report redesigned the Initial Balance and End Balance sections to show a single net "Balance" column instead of separate Debit and Credit columns. Accountants, auditors, and anyone who has to hand a Trial Balance to a bank or a tax authority expect the classic two-column presentation - and re-deriving Debit/Credit from a signed net figure by hand, account by account, is exactly the kind of manual rework Odoo is supposed to eliminate.
- Initial Balance shows one net Balance figure, not Debit / Credit
- End Balance shows one net Balance figure, not Debit / Credit
- Only the movement (period) columns kept separate Debit / Credit
- Exported PDF/XLSX trial balances no longer match the classic format auditors expect
- No built-in setting to switch back - the layout change is hard-coded in Odoo 19
This module puts the Debit and Credit columns back on the Initial Balance and End Balance sections of the standard Accounting -> Reporting -> Trial Balance report. Net debtor balances land in the Debit column, net creditor balances land in the Credit column, and the period movement columns are untouched. It installs on top of the standard Odoo 19 Trial Balance - nothing is removed or replaced, and it works entirely within Odoo's own standard reporting system, so PDF and XLSX exports pick up the same layout automatically.
- Separate Debit/Credit Initial Balance: the opening balance section splits into its own Debit and Credit columns, exactly like Odoo 17/18
- Separate Debit/Credit End Balance: the closing balance section gets the same treatment
- Correct-Side Net Figures: net debtor balances appear in Debit, net creditor balances appear in Credit - never a negative number sitting in the wrong column
- Movement Columns Unchanged: the period Debit/Credit columns keep their existing gross values, nothing about them changes
- PDF & XLSX Exports Match: the fix applies to the report itself, so every export format reflects the restored layout automatically
- Zero Configuration: install and the report changes immediately - no settings screen, no setup wizard
- Fully Reversible: uninstalling the module returns the report to the standard Odoo 19 single-Balance-column layout, with nothing left behind
- Lightweight & Safe: works entirely within Odoo's own Trial Balance report - nothing else in your database is touched or changed
Live captures of the same Trial Balance report, on the same demo data, in the same Odoo 19 database - once before installing this module, once immediately after.
Trial Balance Before Installing the Module
Initial Balance and End Balance each show a single net "Balance" column. Only the Jul 2026 movement column keeps Debit/Credit.
Trial Balance After Installing the Module
Same company, same data, same period - Initial Balance and End Balance now each split into Debit and Credit, matching the classic Odoo 17/18 layout.
Column Headers Before - One "Balance" per Section
Zoomed in on the same table: Initial Balance and End Balance are collapsed to one column each, so a -29,750.00 credit balance has to be read as a signed number instead of sitting in its own Credit column.
Column Headers After - Debit / Credit per Section
Same accounts, same balances - now every net creditor figure (e.g. Account Receivable's 35,525.00) sits cleanly in the Credit column, and every net debtor figure sits in Debit, on both Initial and End Balance.
Install the Module
Install Trial Balance - Debit/Credit Initial & End Balance like any other app. It only needs Odoo's standard Accounting Reports feature, already included with Accounting/Invoicing, so no extra configuration is required.
Open the Trial Balance
Go to Accounting -> Reporting -> Trial Balance (or Invoicing -> Reporting -> Trial Balance without Accounting installed). The report reloads with the restored layout - no cache to clear, no report to re-generate.
Read, Export, or Uninstall - Your Choice
Read the report on screen, or export to PDF/XLSX - both pick up the same Debit/Credit columns automatically. If you ever want the stock Odoo 19 single-Balance-column layout back, simply uninstall the module; nothing else on the report is affected.
No More Manual Re-work
Accountants stop re-deriving Debit/Credit from a signed net balance by hand for every account, every period-end.
Audit & Bank-Ready Exports
PDF/XLSX exports match the classic Debit/Credit format that auditors, lenders, and tax authorities expect to see.
Painless Odoo 18 -> 19 Migration
Teams migrating from Odoo 17/18 keep the Trial Balance format their accounting workflows and templates were built around.
Zero Risk
A lightweight, safe change with no data migration - install to try it, uninstall any time with nothing left behind.
