Partner Alert Message

Display a custom alert message whenever a customer is selected in orders, invoices, or any other document - keeping your team informed at the right moment.

What does this module do?

Partner Alert Message lets you attach a custom alert to any customer record. When that customer is selected in a sale order, invoice, delivery order, or any other document, the alert is displayed immediately - ensuring your team sees critical notes before proceeding.

Each partner can have its own tailored message. If no custom message is set, the module falls back to a company-wide general alert defined in Settings, so you can broadcast a notice to all flagged customers without editing each record individually.

Write a custom HTML alert message directly on each partner form. Rich text formatting is supported.

Company-wide fallback

Define a general alert message in Settings that applies to every customer with Show Alert Message enabled but no custom text.

Triggered on partner selection

The alert pops up automatically whenever the customer is selected in any document - orders, invoices, delivery notes, and more.

Access control

Only users in the Allow modification of the alert message for customers group can enable or edit alert messages on partners.

Multi-company ready

The Show Alert Message flag and the general alert text are company-dependent, so each company manages its own alerts independently.

Multi-language support

Alert messages are translated per user language, so each team member sees the notice in their own Odoo interface language.

Setting up and using alert messages

Follow these steps to enable an alert message for a customer and see it in action.

  1. Open the customer form and enable the alert

    Go to Contacts and open the partner record you want to flag. Scroll to the Alert Message section and check Show Alert Message. An HTML editor will appear where you can write the custom notice for this customer.

    The Alert Message section is only visible to users in the Allow modification of the alert message for customers group. See the Configuration tab to manage group membership.

  2. Write the alert message (optional)

    Type your notice in the Alert Message field using the built-in HTML editor. You can format text, add bold warnings, bullet lists, or any other rich content. If you leave the field empty, the module will display the company-wide general alert message configured in Settings instead.

  3. Save the partner record

    Click Save (or use the breadcrumb to navigate away). The alert is now active for this customer.

  4. Select the customer in any document

    Open a sale order, invoice, delivery order, or any other document and select the flagged customer in the partner field. The alert message will appear automatically, giving your team the relevant notice before they continue.

Tip: use the company-wide general alert (Settings > General Settings > Contacts) to broadcast a standard notice to all flagged customers without editing each partner individually. Partner-specific messages always take priority over the general one.

Module configuration

The module works out of the box after installation. Two optional settings let you control the company-wide fallback message and which users can manage alerts.

Go to Settings > General Settings and scroll to the Contacts section. The General Alert Message field lets you define a default notice that applies to all customers who have Show Alert Message enabled but no custom partner-level message set.

This setting is company-dependent. In a multi-company setup, each company can define its own general alert message.

User group - who can manage alerts

The Alert Message section on partner forms is only visible to users belonging to the Allow modification of the alert message for customers group. By default, only the Administrator has this permission.

To grant access to other users, go to Settings > Users & Companies > Groups, find the Allow modification of the alert message for customers group, and add the relevant users.

Users without this group will still see the alert popup when selecting a flagged customer - they just cannot create or edit the messages themselves.

Message priority

When a customer is selected, the module resolves the message to display as follows:

  1. If the partner has Show Alert Message enabled and a custom message written, that message is shown.
  2. If the partner has Show Alert Message enabled but the custom message is empty, the company-wide General Alert Message from Settings is shown instead.
  3. If Show Alert Message is not enabled on the partner, no alert is shown regardless of the Settings value.
