WhatsApp AI Agent - Setup Guide

This module connects your Odoo instance directly to the WhatsApp Cloud API via Meta for Developers. Once configured, the selected AI Base provider routes inbound WhatsApp messages to the Odoo AI agent, uses the configured AI Base provider, applies Odoo access rights, and replies in the user's language without middleware.

  • Odoo (Community or Enterprise)
  • Python 3.10+ with standard requests library
  • Official WhatsApp Cloud API account (Meta)
  • Default AI provider configured in AI Base

Implementation Assistance

Recommended Setup Path
1. Install the Module
Install eb_ai_whatsapp from the Odoo Apps menu and activate it on your Odoo instance.
2. Create a Meta App
Go to Meta for Developers → My Apps → Create App. Select Business type and add the WhatsApp product to your app.
3. Generate Access Token & Phone Number ID
From the WhatsApp API setup in Meta, copy your Temporary or Permanent Access Token and the Phone Number ID of your registered WhatsApp Business number.
4. Configure in Odoo
In Odoo go to WhatsApp AI → Configuration → WhatsApp Settings. Enter your Access Token, Phone Number ID, and Gemini AI API Key.
5. Set Up Webhook
In Meta Developer Console, under WhatsApp → Configuration → Webhook, set the Callback URL to https://yourodoo.com/whatsapp/webhook and paste the Verify Token from Odoo settings.
6. Test & Go Live
Send a test message to your WhatsApp number. The AI should respond instantly. Review message logs in WhatsApp AI → Message Logs and you are live!

Do I need a WhatsApp Business API account?
Yes. You need an official WhatsApp Cloud API account linked to your Meta Business Manager. This is required to send and receive messages and enable automated AI-powered replies through Odoo.
How does natural language Odoo action work?
A user sends a plain-language request in WhatsApp. The AI identifies the intended Odoo model, checks access rights, resolves fields, and performs the allowed action in Odoo.
Can the AI send Odoo PDF documents?
Yes. The assistant can send standard Odoo print reports through WhatsApp, including quotations, invoices, delivery documents, purchase documents, and other configured reports when the linked user has access.
Can users search or check records from WhatsApp?
Yes. Users can ask for records by name, reference, state, date, or context. The assistant searches only the records available to the linked Odoo user.
Does it work beyond Sales and Invoicing?
Yes. The assistant is universal and can work with installed Odoo apps such as CRM, Sales, Invoicing, Inventory, Purchase, Calendar, Contacts, Project, and other accessible models.
Does the AI support multiple languages?
Yes. The module features Auto Language Detection. The AI dynamically identifies the language used in the message and continues the conversation in that same language.
Does the AI support Voice Messages?
Yes. Users can send voice messages when transcription is configured. The AI can understand the request and continue the workflow through WhatsApp.
What happens when access is not allowed?
The assistant returns a clear access message and does not bypass Odoo permissions. Access can be changed by updating the user's Odoo groups and model permissions.
How is the Odoo user authenticated?
The sender's WhatsApp number is matched with the Phone field on an internal Odoo user. Actions then run with that user's Odoo access rights.
Can it send Odoo PDF documents?
Yes. The assistant can send standard Odoo print reports such as quotations, invoices, deliveries, and other PDFs when the linked user has access.
Can users get their own profile information?
Yes. Users can ask who they are or request profile details. The assistant replies using the linked Odoo user and partner information.
Is this module compatible with Odoo Community and Enterprise?
Yes. This module is fully compatible with Odoo Community and Enterprise. It integrates natively with Odoo, WhatsApp Cloud API, and AI Base without third party middleware.
