Margin (%) = (Revenue − Total Costs) /  Revenue   × 100, where Revenue is the sum of Invoiced and To Invoice amounts, and Total Costs is the sum of Billed and To Bill amounts. The Base is either Revenue or Cost, depending on the selected calculation mode. This keeps the margin figure accurate and consistent with Odoo's own Profitability panel data.

A dedicated "Calculate Margin on Revenue" boolean field is added to each Project, letting the user decide how the Margin % should be interpreted. When enabled, Margin % is calculated as a percentage of Sales/Revenue (Invoiced); when disabled, Odoo's standard behaviour is preserved and Margin % is calculated as a percentage of Cost. This gives finance and project teams the flexibility to view profitability the way that matches their reporting standard.

Projects in the Kanban view can be filtered and grouped by Profitability level — Negative, Low, Medium, or Good — giving an instant visual scan of which projects are underperforming or thriving. Since this level is a stored field, it works seamlessly with Odoo's native Filters and Group By options, so no extra configuration is needed. Users can save their own custom filters and combine Profitability grouping with other project criteria like Stage or Manager. This turns the Kanban board into a quick profitability dashboard, not just a task tracker.
