Let shoppers tell you what they need
Add a note field to cart and checkout, then carry that note all the way to the delivery record, the portal, and the sales order list — so fulfillment instructions never get lost.
Odoo's website checkout has no built-in way for a shopper to leave instructions — delivery preferences, gift messages, or handling requests. That information gets lost, or lands in support emails and phone calls, causing fulfillment errors and manual order edits.
A note field on cart and checkout that saves as the customer types, shows up automatically on the delivery/picking document your warehouse team works from, echoes back in the customer's portal order history, and flags noted orders right in the backend sales list.
Everything a note needs, end to end
Every capability below is implemented in the module.
Cart & checkout note field
A mobile-friendly textarea on the cart page and at checkout, saved automatically as the customer types so the text survives navigation between steps.
Note on the delivery document
The customer's note is surfaced directly on the delivery/picking record — the document your warehouse staff actually work from — with no manual cross-referencing.
Separate internal note
A dedicated staff-only note field lets your team annotate an order internally without ever exposing that text to the customer.
Customer sees it in their order history
The note is echoed back on the portal order page so shoppers can confirm their instructions were recorded correctly — cutting "did you get my note?" support tickets.
Noted orders flagged in the list
A "Has Customer Note" column and search filter on the sales order list let staff spot and prioritize noted orders without opening every record.
Quick-add note templates
Admin-configured one-click chips — "Leave at the front door", "Gift wrap this order" — reduce typing effort and increase how often customers actually leave a note.
Character limit & required-note guard
Set a maximum note length to keep the public field in check, and optionally require a note before checkout can complete — enforced on both the browser and the server.
Per-website configuration
Turn the whole feature on or off, show or hide it on the cart page, and customize the field label and placeholder text — all per website, from Website Settings.
Live character counter
A running counter under the note field shows shoppers exactly how much room they have left, keeping the field predictable on mobile too.
How it works
Shopper writes a note
On the cart page or at checkout, the customer types a note or taps a quick-add chip; it saves automatically as they type.
Order is placed
The note is stored on the sales order and, if required, checkout is blocked until a note is entered.
Staff see it where they work
The note flags the order in the backend list, appears on the sale order form, and carries through to the delivery/picking document.
Customer confirms it later
The shopper can revisit their portal order history and see the exact note they left, confirming it was captured correctly.
See it in action
From the shopper's cart to the warehouse floor to the customer's portal.
The note widget on `/shop/cart`: label, textarea with placeholder, a live character counter, and quick-add chips.
The same widget with a note typed in and the character counter updating as the customer types.
The customer's own portal order page, echoing their note back to them under "Your order note".
The Sales Orders list with the "Has Customer Note" column, so staff spot noted orders at a glance and filter by them.
The sale order form's "Order Note" page: the customer's note and the separate internal fulfillment note, side by side.
The headline feature: the customer's note surfaced directly on the delivery/picking document your warehouse team works from.
Website › Configuration › Order Note Templates: admins manage the quick-add suggestions shown to shoppers.
Website Settings: enable toggle, show-on-cart, require-a-note, max length, field label, and placeholder — all per website.
Frequently asked
Does the note reach my warehouse team, or just the sales order?
Both. The note is stored on the sale order and automatically appears on the delivery/picking document created when the order is confirmed, so whoever packs and ships the order sees it without opening the sales order separately.
Can staff write private notes the customer never sees?
Yes. A separate internal fulfillment note field is editable only by staff on the sale order form and is never rendered on the website, portal, or confirmation communication.
Can I require a note before checkout completes?
Yes. A "Require a Note" toggle in Website Settings blocks checkout with an inline message until a note is entered, enforced on both the browser and the server so it can't be bypassed.
Can I turn the note field off for one of my websites?
Yes. Every setting — the on/off toggle, cart visibility, required flag, max length, label, and placeholder — is scoped per website, so a multi-site install can configure each storefront independently.
