1. Configuration Guide
Enable geofencing on your FSM Projects in 3 steps:
- Go to Field Service > Configuration > Projects.
- Open your FSM Project and go to the Geofencing tab.
- Activate Allow Geolocation.
- Set the Allowed Distance (m) (e.g. 100).
- Toggle Control Distance on Start/Stop.
2. Operating Manual (Workflow)
How it works for the technician:
Starting the Timer
When the technician clicks Start, the system checks their GPS location. If they are within the allowed range (e.g., 100m) of the customer, the timer starts. If not, an error message guides them to move closer.
Stopping the Timer
On Stop, the location is verified again (if configured). The system also captures the exact coordinates where the task was finished for audit purposes.
Lost Reason Prompt
If the task is stopped without a Confirmed Sale Order, a pop-up requires the technician to select a reason (e.g., "Customer not interested"), ensuring 100% data completeness.
Auto Mark Done
Save clicks! Enable Auto Mark Done to automatically move the task to "Done" stage immediately after the timesheet is saved and confirmed.

Scenario 1: Access Denied (Far Away)
- Set Allowed Distance to 100 meters.
- Using browser developer tools or a mock GPS app, simulate a location 5km away.
- Open an FSM Task assigned to a customer at your current office.
- Click Start.
- Result: UseError popup: "You are too far from the customer location".
Scenario 2: Access Granted (On Site)
- Update mock GPS to match the customer's coordinates (within 100m).
- Click Start.
- Result: Timer starts successfully. Task state changes to In Progress.
Scenario 3: Lost Reason Requirement
- Work on a task that has NO Sale Order confirmed.
- Click Stop.
- The standard "Stop Timer" wizard appears.
- Result: You MUST see a "Lost Reason" dropdown. It is required. You cannot save without picking one.
Scenario 4: Auto-Complete
- Enable "Auto Mark Done" on the Project.
- Stop the timer on a task and confirm the timesheet.
- Result: The task stage instantly moves to the "Done" stage (or equivalent Folded/Closed stage) without extra clicks.
FAQ & Troubleshooting
Common Resolutions
"Customer does not have a valid geolocation"?
Reason: The Partner assigned to the task has coordinates (0,0).
Fix: Go to the Customer contact form, ensure the address is correct, and click "Geolocate" (Partner Latitude/Longitude fields).
Browser location permission?
Reason: The browser blocked access to GPS.
Fix: Check the browser address bar for a "Location blocked" icon. Allow access and reload the page.
Does it work on Mobile App?
Answer: Yes!
Detail: It uses the standard specialized method for retrieving location in both Browser and Odoo Mobile App.
Can I override the restriction?
Answer: Only by configuration.
Detail: A Project Manager can temporarily disable "Control Distance" on the Project settings if a bypass is needed for emergencies.
