📌 What is the Margin?
Margin represents the difference between the selling price of a
product and its cost. It helps businesses measure profitability on a per-product
basis.
Formula:
Margin = (Quantity × Unit Price) − (Quantity × Unit Cost)
Example:
If 10 units are sold at $50 each, with a cost of $30 per unit:
➤ Margin = (10 × 50) − (10 × 30) = 500 − 300 = $200
📊 What is Margin Percentage?
The Margin Percentage (Margin %) indicates the profit margin
relative to the total sales value. It is useful for analyzing profitability in
percentage terms.
Formula:
Margin % = (Margin ÷ Total Price) × 100
Using the above example:
➤ Margin % = (200 ÷ 500) × 100 = 40%
These margin values are automatically calculated and displayed within both the
Sales Order form and corresponding Order Line
views in Odoo.
📊 Margin Percentage Formula:
Margin (%) = (SUM(Margin) / SUM(Unit Price)) × 100
This formula calculates the overall margin percentage by dividing the total margin by the total sales price and multiplying by 100. It gives a quick view of profitability across all sales.
