Bank Journal Access Control
Restriction per User
Let a user keep full Invoicing and reconciliation permissions while only seeing the bank/cash journals you choose for them. Sales, purchase, and miscellaneous journals are never touched, so day-to-day invoicing keeps working exactly as before.
Show only the journals you choose, keep every other permission
Companies with several bank accounts often need a bookkeeper or cashier who can reconcile payments and issue invoices, but should never see the balances or transactions of the other accounts. This module adds exactly that restriction, without touching any other permission.
One Checkbox on the User Form
Enable "Restrict Bank Journals" on any user, then pick the specific bank/cash journals they may see. No new apps, wizards, or menus to learn.
Hides Journals Everywhere
The restriction applies to the Accounting dashboard, journal lists, bank statements, statement lines, journal entries, and payments — not just one screen.
Invoicing Keeps Working
Sales, purchase, and miscellaneous journals are never restricted, so the user can keep creating and posting customer invoices and vendor bills normally.
Reconciliation Still Works
On their allowed journal(s), the user keeps full reconciliation ability — matching payments, creating statement lines, and closing bank statements as usual.
See it in action
User form — enable "Restrict Bank Journals" and pick the allowed bank/cash journal(s)
Every bank/cash journal is visible on the Accounting dashboard
Only the journal(s) this user was granted access to are shown
The Journals list view shows every bank/cash journal, not just the dashboard
The same list view stays filtered to the user's allowed journal(s)
Customer invoices & vendor bills — the restricted user keeps full invoicing permissions
Bank reconciliation — the restricted user reconciles payments normally on their allowed journal(s)
Segregation of duties without losing productivity
Odoo's standard Invoicing group is all-or-nothing on journals: give a user Billing rights and they see every bank and cash account in the company. This module closes that gap.
Segregation of Duties
Give staff exactly the bank/cash visibility their role requires — nothing more — while keeping their invoicing and reconciliation rights intact.
Scoped for Safety
Unlike generic journal-restriction apps that can lock down any journal type, this module only ever touches Bank and Cash journals — so a misconfiguration can never accidentally cut off a user's invoicing rights.
Zero Configuration Complexity
No security group to activate, no bidirectional user↔journal assignment, no record rules to write. Tick a checkbox, pick the journals, done.
Safe & Reversible
Unchecking "Restrict Bank Journals" instantly restores full visibility. Nothing is deleted, renamed, or permanently altered on your journals.
Install, tick a box, pick the journals
No configuration screen, no wizard — the whole setup happens on the user form.
Install the Module
Copy atliis_journal_access_restriction into your Odoo addons path, update the
app list, and install Bank & Cash Journal Access Restriction per User.
It depends only on account — no extra modules required.
Open the User's Access Rights
Go to Settings > Users & Companies > Users, open the user, and scroll to the Access Rights tab. A new Bank Journal Restriction section appears at the bottom.
Enable the Restriction
Tick Restrict Bank Journals, then use the Allowed Bank/Cash Journals field to select exactly which journal(s) this user may see. Save the user — the restriction takes effect immediately, with no restart needed.
Done
The user keeps their existing Invoicing role — they can still create invoices, register payments, and reconcile — but the Accounting dashboard, journal lists, bank statements, journal entries, and payments only ever show their allowed bank/cash journal(s).
Common questions
Does this affect sales, purchase, or miscellaneous journals?
No. The restriction only applies to journals of type Bank or Cash. Sales, purchase, and miscellaneous journals — and the invoices/bills posted on them — remain fully visible so the user's day-to-day invoicing work is unaffected.
Can the user still reconcile payments?
Yes. On any journal they're allowed to see, the user keeps full read/write access — including bank statements, statement lines, and the reconciliation widget — so their Billing/Invoicing role continues to work exactly as before.
Does it require developer knowledge to set up?
No. Everything is configured from the standard user form — a checkbox and a journal selection field. No security groups, record rules, or code changes to write.
Can I restrict a user to more than one journal?
Yes. The Allowed Bank/Cash Journals field accepts any number of journals — restrict a user to a single account or a specific subset of your company's bank and cash journals.
How is this different from generic journal restriction apps?
Most journal-restriction tools apply to any journal type, including Sales, Purchase, and Miscellaneous. This flexibility comes with a risk: a misconfigured rule can inadvertently remove a user's invoicing access. This module takes a narrower, more deliberate approach — it restricts only Bank and Cash journals, so Sales, Purchase, and Miscellaneous journals, along with the user's invoicing rights, remain unaffected by design. Configuration is limited to a single checkbox and one field on the user form, with no separate security group to activate and no bidirectional user-to-journal assignment to maintain.
