Error Log & Notification
Real-Time Odoo Exception Capture & Instant Email Alerts
Stop finding out about server errors from unhappy users. Automatically capture every unhandled exception, cron failure, and log file entry — then email your team instantly with the full traceback and a direct link to investigate in seconds.
Everything you need to monitor your Odoo server
React to errors before users notice. Capture, store, and receive email alerts for every server exception, cron failure, and log file entry.
HTTP Exception Logging
Every unhandled exception during an Odoo HTTP request is captured with full Python traceback, request URL, headers, session data, and the triggering user.
Cron Job Failure Logging
Exceptions inside scheduled actions are caught and logged with the cron name and full traceback, then emailed to your team — background job failures never go unnoticed.
Instant Email Alerts
Configure a primary recipient and unlimited additional contacts. Each alert includes error details, affected user, timestamp, and a direct link to open the log record in Odoo.
Odoo Log File Monitoring
A built-in cron reads the Odoo server log file incrementally every 5 minutes and creates records for entries at or above your chosen severity. Supports log rotation detection.
Rich JSON Log Viewer
Each log record stores exception data, request headers, parameters, session context, and response details — all in a syntax-highlighted JSON editor for rapid root-cause diagnosis.
Centralised Configuration
One configuration record controls everything — enable email alerts, set the sender, add recipients, set the log file path, and configure minimum severity from a single screen.
Five error sources — one unified log
| Error Type | Source | Email Alert |
|---|---|---|
| Server Error | Unhandled exceptions during HTTP requests | Always |
| Cron Error | Exceptions inside scheduled actions | Always |
| Access Error | AccessError / AccessDenied exceptions | Always |
| Log Entry | Odoo log file (monitored by cron) | Configurable level |
| Website Error | HTTP 4xx/5xx from visitors / bots | Logged only |
Set up in under 5 minutes
Configure email recipients, optionally enable log file monitoring, and start receiving alerts immediately.
Open Configuration
Navigate to Error Logs → Configuration (Administrators only).
A single configuration record controls all notification and monitoring behaviour for the entire Odoo instance.
Enable Email & Set Recipients
Tick Send Email, choose a Primary Recipient, and add any additional contacts who should be copied on every alert.
Optionally set a custom From User for the sender address.
Enable Log File Monitoring
Tick Monitor Log File, click Auto-detect Path to locate the running Odoo log file automatically, and set a Minimum Log Level (e.g. ERROR).
The bundled cron runs every 5 minutes and reads the log file incrementally — no missed or duplicated entries even after log rotation.
Review Error Logs
Open Error Logs → Logs to browse every captured exception. Filter by type, user, or date.
Click any record to view the full JSON exception, request headers, and response data side by side in the syntax-highlighted viewer.
Install and configure
Install the module, open the configuration, enable email and add recipients, and your team starts receiving alerts immediately.
1. Add the module
Copy atliis_log_error_notification into your Odoo addons path.
2. Update Apps
Enable developer mode, then go to Apps → Update Apps List.
3. Install
Search for Error Log & Notification and click Install.
4. Configure
Go to Error Logs → Configuration, enable email, add recipients, and optionally configure log file monitoring.
Common questions
Which types of Odoo errors does this module capture?
Five categories are captured:
- Server errors — unhandled Python exceptions during HTTP requests
- Cron failures — exceptions inside Odoo scheduled actions
- Access errors — AccessError and AccessDenied exceptions
- Log file entries — entries at or above the configured minimum level
- Website errors — HTTP 4xx/5xx from visitors or bots (logged only, no email)
Can I turn off email alerts without losing the log records?
Yes. Untick Send Email in the configuration at any time. All exceptions continue to be captured and stored — email notifications are simply paused.
How does Odoo log file monitoring work?
A built-in scheduled action reads the log file incrementally every 5 minutes, processing only new content since the last run via a byte-offset. If the file has been rotated, the cron resets automatically so no entries are missed.
Could this module cause infinite logging loops?
No. The module uses a per-thread re-entrancy guard that prevents the exception handler from triggering itself. SessionExpiredException is silently skipped, and each log operation runs in its own database cursor independent of the failed request's rollback.
Does this module affect Odoo performance?
The impact is negligible. Exception logging only runs when an error occurs. Log file monitoring uses incremental reads (up to 10 MB per run) and old records are automatically cleaned up after 15 days by a scheduled maintenance cron.
