Odoo FTP/SFTP
EDI
Integration
Automate electronic document exchanges seamlessly between Odoo and your external trading partners. Configure secure FTP/SFTP server integrations, dynamically map XML or JSON fields, and set up bi-directional automated processing.
FTP & SFTP Protocol
Integrates directly with remote standard FTP or secure SFTP servers. Verify connections instantly inside Odoo settings.
XML & JSON File Formats
Full parsing support for XML structures and JSON schemas, ensuring compliance with any modern supply chain partner.
Dynamic Field Mappings
Configure customized data field mappings between XML elements / JSON keys and Odoo database fields without writing code.
Module Overview
The Odoo FTP/SFTP EDI Integration Module is a robust middleware connector developed to establish systematic, secure, and automated document synchronization. Whether importing customer sales orders from external systems or exporting product catalogues and delivery details back to trading partners, this module does it all without manual intervention.
Featuring a detailed EDI Mapping Engine, the module allows companies to structure mapping tables dynamically for both parent tables and sub-tables (e.g. mapping order details alongside order lines). By enabling scheduler configurations (crons), data transfers are handled in the background, minimizing data discrepancies, eliminating manual import mistakes, and optimizing operational workflows.
Hot Features
Explore the advanced utilities configured within our EDI connector
Flexible Protocol Setup
Supports FTP & SFTP connections with credentials storage, custom port selection, and target remote path definitions.
Remote Directory Sync
Sync folder structures from external servers. Map individual folders to specific upload or download directions.
Sub-Model Mapping
Map hierarchical structures (e.g. Sales Orders and Order Lines) concurrently, keeping parent-child data intact.
Transaction Log Cockpit
Tracks execution status (Draft, In Progress, Done, Failed) and archives imported/exported file data for full auditing.
Failed State Re-computation
Failed exchanges can be fixed (data or mappings adjusted) and re-triggered manually using the Re-compute action.
Automation & Validation
Auto-confirmations, shipping charge application, mandatory fields check, and auto-creations for missing products.
Workflow & Setup Process
A simple step-by-step process to get started with the EDI integration
FTP/SFTP Server Connection Configuration
Navigate to EDI Integration -> Configuration -> FTP/SFTP Configuration. Create a connection configuration, specify the protocol (FTP or SFTP), address, port, and security credentials. Click the Test Connection button to verify connection status.
Synchronize Directories & Assign Operation Types
Click the Sync Directories button. Odoo connects to the server and retrieves all folders. In the Directories tab, define directories for files to download (Incoming) and upload (Outgoing). You can also configure specific rules like Daily New File check.
EDI Configuration - General Setup
In the General Setup tab, define the Odoo Model configuration by selecting the primary model and its sub-model (for nested line items). Specify operation details, including the operation type (Incoming or Outgoing), file format (XML or JSON), file type, and custom XML header options.
EDI Configuration - Connection & Directory
In the Connection & Directory tab, link your EDI configuration to a registered FTP/SFTP server. Define target directory sync paths specify the Import Directory for Incoming files or the Export Directory for Outgoing files to organize file locations on the remote server.
EDI Configuration - Advanced Options
In the Advanced Options tab, set up workflow automations. For Incoming operations, enable options like Auto Apply Shipping, Auto Confirm Order, and Create record if not found. For Outgoing operations, specify the trading partner and export search domain. Designate specific users for error activity notifications.
EDI Configuration - Field Mappings (XML or JSON)
Establish field mapping rules. Define links between XML nodes or JSON elements and Odoo database fields. Specify sub-table relation settings, address indicators, validation rules like required fields, and maximum character length constraints.
EDI Configuration - Sync Outgoing
Click the Sync Outgoing button in the form header to manually trigger the export process. Odoo will fetch the relevant records according to your model and search domain settings, construct the XML or JSON document matching your field mapping definitions, and upload it directly to the designated export directory on the remote FTP/SFTP server.
EDI Transactions
Monitor the history of all files exchanged with trading partners under the EDI Transactions menu. Track execution states (Draft, In Progress, Done, Failed), review processed document details, and retrieve the exact XML or JSON payload transmitted. If a transaction fails, correct the data and click the Re-compute action to retry the synchronization.
EDI Logs
Access the audit trail under the EDI Logs view. This provides a clean list of success and failure notifications, detailing exact exceptions, file names, connection events, and timestamps, ensuring administrators have complete visibility to troubleshoot any transaction issues.
Export Records Wizard
Manually push specific data to the external system using the Export Records wizard. Select the corresponding EDI integration, and select the records to send either by inputting specific Database IDs (e.g. 1, 2, 5) or selecting Products from the relation list.
Log Configuration Settings
Manage database size and cleaning policies under the Log Configuration page. Enable the auto-delete logs feature and specify a retention period (in days) to automatically purge older transaction logs, keeping your Odoo instance optimized and preventing unnecessary data growth.
