Manufacturing Pick Split by Operations
Deliver Materials When They're Actually Needed
The Problem
Standard Odoo manufacturing creates a single picking for all raw materials, delivering everything to your production floor at once.
Workspace Congestion
Production teams trip over materials they won't need until hours or days later.
Material Handling Waste
Multiple moves as materials are staged, moved aside, then retrieved when needed.
Poor Visibility
Warehouse teams can't see which materials are needed for which operation.
Inventory Lock-Up
Materials delivered days early are committed when they could be available elsewhere.
The Solution
Automatically split manufacturing pickings by operation for just-in-time material delivery
Key Features
Automatic Picking Splits
System automatically creates separate pickings for each operation based on your Bill of Materials structure.
Smart Scheduling
Each picking is automatically scheduled for delivery when its operation actually starts.
Dynamic Updates
When production schedules change, material delivery dates update automatically.
Clear Identification
Each picking is named with the manufacturing order and operation (e.g., "MO/00123 - Assembly").
Native Integration
Works seamlessly with standard Odoo manufacturing. Uses existing BOM operation assignments.
Enhanced Visibility
Warehouse teams see operation-level material requirements in the Inventory module.
How It Works
Step 1: Configure Your BOM
Enable "Consumed in Operation" on your Bill of Materials and assign each component to the operation that uses it. This is standard Odoo functionality.
Step 2: Confirm Manufacturing Order
When you confirm a manufacturing order, the system automatically creates separate pickings for each operation instead of one consolidated picking.
Step 3: Plan Production
Click the Plan button to schedule your work orders. The system automatically updates all picking scheduled dates to match operation start times.
Step 4: Stage Materials Just-In-Time
Warehouse teams process pickings according to their scheduled dates, delivering materials to work centers when they're actually needed.
Step 5: Automatic Synchronization
When production schedules change, the system automatically recalculates and updates material delivery timing. No manual coordination required.
Key Benefits
Operational Efficiency
Reduce production floor congestion and improve workspace organization.
- Less clutter on production floor
- Reduced material handling waste
- Improved operator safety
- Better space utilization
Better Planning
Warehouse teams gain operation-level visibility.
- Clear delivery schedules by operation
- Proactive staging vs. reactive delivery
- Better resource allocation
- Reduced expediting stress
Inventory Optimization
Materials stay available for other needs until actually required.
- Delayed material commitment
- Improved inventory availability
- Reduced opportunity cost
- Better cash flow management
Automatic Coordination
Schedule changes automatically propagate to material delivery timing.
- No manual date updates required
- Reduced communication overhead
- Fewer coordination errors
- Faster response to changes
Perfect For
Multi-Day Production Runs
Large assemblies that span multiple days with sequential operations
Deliver materials for Day 1 operations on Day 1, Day 2 materials on Day 2, etc. Production floor stays organized and materials remain available for other needs.
Complex Manufacturing with Many Components
Products with 50+ components used across multiple operations
Instead of drowning the production area in materials, deliver component groups as each operation begins. Operators find what they need quickly.
Variable Lead Time Operations
Some operations complete quickly while others take days
Materials for long-duration operations arrive when those operations start, not at production kickoff.
Multiple Work Centers
Production flows through different work centers sequentially
Deliver materials directly to the work center that will use them, when that operation is scheduled.
