Sales Commission

Track and report salesperson commissions directly on sale order lines — from rate to earned amount.

Overview

Xpedyt Sales Commission brings commission tracking into the heart of the sales process. Each salesperson carries a default commission rate that is automatically applied to every sale order line they create — no manual data entry required.

Commission amounts are calculated per line as a percentage of the line subtotal, summed at the order level, and marked as earned based on a configurable trigger: when the order is confirmed, when the invoice is created, or when the invoice is fully paid. A dedicated reporting view lets managers filter, group, and export commission data across salespeople, orders, and time periods.

Features

  • Per-user default commission rate — set a commission rate (%) on each salesperson's user profile. The rate is automatically copied to new sale order lines when that salesperson is selected on the order. If the salesperson is changed on an existing order, all lines that still carry the previous salesperson's rate are updated automatically to the new salesperson's rate.
  • Per-line commission tracking — each sale order line carries its own rate and computed commission amount. Rates can be adjusted per line after the default is applied.
  • Order-level commission total — the sale order header displays the sum of all line commissions as a Commission Total monetary field.
  • Earned status per line — each line tracks whether the commission has been earned, computed dynamically based on the company's trigger setting.
  • Configurable earn trigger — choose company-wide when commission is considered earned: on sale order confirmation, on invoice creation, or on invoice payment.
  • Commission report view — a dedicated list view aggregates all commission lines across orders, filterable by salesperson, date, and earned status.

How it works

When a sale order is created and a salesperson is selected, the module reads that user's default commission rate and pre-fills it on every new order line. The commission amount for each line is then computed automatically:

Commission Amount = Line Subtotal × Commission Rate (%)

The Earned flag on each line is recalculated whenever the order or its invoices change state. This means managers always see an up-to-date picture of which commissions are outstanding and which have been triggered for payment.

Commission rates can be overridden on any individual order line — useful for promotional lines, samples, or special pricing arrangements where the standard rate should not apply.

Configuration

Module settings are found under Sales → Configuration → Settings in the Sales Commission section.

  • Commission Trigger — select when a commission line is marked as earned:
    • Sale Order Confirmed — commission is earned as soon as the order reaches the Sale or Done state.
    • Invoice Created — commission is earned when at least one posted customer invoice exists for the order.
    • Invoice Paid — commission is earned only when a posted invoice reaches Paid or In Payment status.

The per-user commission rate is set on each user's profile under Settings → Users & Companies → Users, in the Sales tab alongside other salesperson settings.

Commission report

The commission report is accessible under Sales → Reporting → Commissions. It shows all sale order lines that carry a commission, with the following columns available for filtering and grouping:

  • Salesperson — who the commission belongs to.
  • Order — the source sale order.
  • Order Date — date of the sale order, stored directly on the line for fast filtering.
  • Commission Rate (%) — the rate applied to this line.
  • Commission Amount — the computed monetary amount.
  • Earned — whether the trigger condition has been met.

Use the standard Odoo grouping and pivot features to summarise commissions by salesperson per month, compare earned vs. pending across the team, or export the data for payroll processing.
