Field controls that stop messy master data
Restrict Create & Edit
Prevent users from creating or editing related records directly from dropdowns (e.g., in Sales, Purchase or Invoice forms), so all master data is created only from dedicated menus.
Restrict External Link
Disable the redirect link in Many2one fields, so users can’t accidentally jump to related records and change data from the wrong place.
Allow Create & Edit
For specific models (like Contacts, Products or Payment Terms), selectively re-enable “Create & Edit” so authorized users can still add records when needed.
Allow External Link
For models where it makes sense (like Payment Terms or Products), re-enable the redirect so users can open and view related records directly.
Set Dropdown Limit
Define how many records appear in the dropdown list (e.g., only 5–10), so forms load faster and users aren’t overwhelmed by long lists.
Set Search More Limit
Control how many records show in the “Search More” popup, keeping searches fast and relevant, even in large databases.
Installation
To install the module, navigate to the Apps menu, remove any existing filters from the search bar, search for pragtech_advance_model_configuration, and click the Activate button.
Configuration
Navigate to Settings > Technical > Model - Configuration and define rules per model.
Restrict Create and Edit External Link
After installing the Restrict Model Options module, the Create and Edit options in Many2one and Many2many fields, as well as the redirection link in Many2one fields, are disabled across other modules. As a result, users cannot create new records, which is why no customer records are available for selection.
Similar to the Create and Edit options, the redirection link in Many2one fields is also disabled.
Allow Create and Edit
To enable the Create and Edit option, Go to Settings → Technical → Models, select the model for which you want to allow Create and Edit, and enable the Allow Create/Edit Option checkbox.

Similar to the Create and Edit option, the same configuration
applies to the
External Link.
To enable it, go to Settings → Technical → Models, select the
model for which you want to allow the external link, and enable the
Allow External Link checkbox.
For example, to allow external links for payment terms, select the
account.payment.term model and enable the
Allow External Link.
After applying the configuration, the redirection link becomes available.
Set Dropdown Limit
Using the Dropdown Limit setting, you can define how many records are displayed in the dropdown menu for both Many2one and Many2many fields. The image below shows the dropdown list before any limits are applied.
To configure the dropdown limit, go to Settings → Technical → Models, select the model for which you want to set the limit, and enter the required value in the Search Dropdown Limit field, as shown in the image.
After applying the configuration, only two records are displayed in the dropdown menu.
Set Search More Limit
Using the Search More Limit feature, you can control how many records are displayed in the “Search More” pop-up for both Many2one and Many2many fields. The image below shows all available records before the limit is applied.
To configure the Search More limit, go to Settings → Technical → Models, select the model for which you want to set the limit, and enter the desired value in the Search More Limit field, as shown in the image.
After applying the configuration, only the number of records defined in the limit is displayed in the “Search More” results.

It is an Odoo module that gives administrators fine-grained control over how relational fields (Many2one and Many2many) behave, including create, edit, external links and record limits.
The module supports:

When enabled, users will not see the Create and Edit options in the dropdown or Search More popup. This prevents them from creating or editing related records from the field.
The external link is the arrow icon next to a Many2one field that lets users open the related record form.
Users will not be able to open related records from the field. They can select values but not view or edit full details.
