UoM-Based Labour Quantity Planning (Variant Matrix Enabled)

This module extends the functionality of the planned_quantity_cost_sheet_labour module and integrates with odoo_job_costing_management_variants to support product variant matrix selection in Job Costing. It enhances the Labour workflow by supporting both Hourly Based and Generic quantity options.

When Hourly Based is selected as the Labour Qty Option, the quantity entered in the Product Variant Matrix popup is automatically assigned to the Hours field of the labour line.

When Generic is selected, the quantity entered in the Product Variant Matrix is assigned to the Planned Quantity (product_qty) field along with the selected Unit of Measure (UoM).

Upon confirming the matrix selection, the system automatically creates job cost lines with accurate product variants, cost price, UoM, and quantity values based on the selected Labour Qty Option. This ensures seamless handling of both Hourly and Generic labour costing workflows using product variants.

Purpose of the Module

The purpose of this module is to enhance labour job costing by integrating Product Variant Matrix functionality with flexible quantity handling options. It extends the planned_quantity_cost_sheet_labour module and works in conjunction with odoo_job_costing_management_variants to provide a structured and automated variant selection workflow.

This module introduces support for two Labour Quantity modes: Hourly Based and Generic. Depending on the selected option, the quantity entered in the Product Variant Matrix is intelligently mapped to either the Hours field (for Hourly Based costing) or the Planned Quantity (product_qty) field along with the appropriate Unit of Measure (UoM) (for Generic costing).

Upon confirmation of the matrix selection, the system automatically creates accurate job cost lines for each selected product variant, applying the correct cost price, UoM, and quantity logic based on the chosen Labour Qty Option. This ensures consistent, flexible, and efficient labour cost planning using configurable products.

Real World Problem It Solves

In practical job costing scenarios, labour costing requirements often vary. Some projects require costing based on working hours, while others require quantity based planning similar to material consumption. Standard systems typically support only one approach at a time, forcing users to manually adjust quantities or modify data structures to fit their costing needs.

Additionally, when labour products have multiple variants, users must manually create separate lines for each variant and ensure quantities are entered in the correct field. This process increases the risk of incorrect quantity mapping, inconsistent costing logic, and data entry errors.

This module solves these challenges by combining variant matrix selection with intelligent quantity mapping. Users can select all required labour variants from a structured Product Matrix interface and enter quantities once. The system automatically assigns the quantity to Hours or Planned Quantity based on the selected Labour Qty Option, ensuring accurate costing, reduced manual effort, and a flexible workflow that adapts to real project requirements.

  • Automatic Variant Detection & Matrix Display:
    • When a configurable product is selected, the system checks for available variants.
    • If multiple variants exist, a Product Matrix popup opens automatically.
    • All variant combinations are displayed in a structured grid format.
  • Product Matrix Capabilities:
    • Select required product variant combinations.
    • Enter quantities directly within the matrix.
    • Confirm selections to generate costing lines automatically.
