Advanced Many2one Restrictions | Disable Create, Edit & Open on Dropdowns
One of the most common challenges in a growing ERP environment is maintaining clean and
accurate master data. By default, Many2one fields allow users to "Create" or "Create and
Edit" records on the fly. While convenient, this often leads to a cluttered database filled
with duplicate partners, incorrectly categorized products, and inconsistent data entries
that make reporting a nightmare.
Advanced Many2one Restrictions empowers you to solve this problem at the UI level. It
provides a granular, group-based mechanism to disable these "Quick Create" and "Open Record"
actions, ensuring your team follows established data entry protocols without impacting their
ability to view and use existing information.
Features
Disable 'Create', 'Create & Edit', and 'Quick Create' options in Many2one dropdowns.
Prevent accidental or unauthorized creation of new records to keep your database clean.
Remove the external link icon to prevent users from navigating to related record details.
Dynamically apply or remove restrictions by assigning users to specific security groups.
Enforce restrictions across Sales, Purchase, Inventory, Accounting, and Product forms.
Fields remain fully visible for selection; only modification actions are restricted.
Configure User-Based Restrictions
After activating the module, go to Settings > Users & Companies > Users and open the user you want to restrict.
Here, we select Mitchell Admin and enable the required options, such as Sales Restriction and Products & Product Variants Restriction.
Once enabled, the related Many2one fields will be restricted for this user, preventing create or edit actions while keeping record selection available.
Restriction in Sale Order Flow
Since the user is restricted for Sales and Products & Product Variants, navigate to the Sales app and try to create a new Quotation.
When selecting a Customer, the Create and Create & Edit options are no longer available in the dropdown. This confirms that the restriction is successfully applied and the user can only select existing records.
Restriction on Product Form Fields
From the Sales app, open Products and navigate to the Inventory tab. Under the Responsible field, try to add "Roman".
You will notice that the Create and Create & Edit options are not available. This confirms that important Many2one fields are correctly restricted, allowing only existing records to be selected.
